My old C2 had the standard knob which adjusted the time between intermittent wipes.

Then I changed to a turbo and it took me a while to realise that the knob on the dash for that doesn't adjust time between wipes but the sensitivity of the sensor in the windscreen glass.

I found this as well when i upgraded from a c2 to a turbo, however i thought the knob only went to rain sensor mode when it was at 1 extreme and the rest of the time time it changed the timings?

Yes when its on the lowest position it doesn't change when you turn the knob.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi,
My car never had the knob for the wipers on the dash but the wiring loom and connector was there so I fitted a knob, However no matter whether I turn it low or high the wipers only come on now and again when I pull the lever down, Does anyone know if it should just be plug and play or would there be a part missing.
Thanks
On my car (2002 Carrera 2, facelift), this is how the wiper arm works:
Highest lever position: Constant wiper, fast
One click down: Constant wiper, slow
Two clicks down: Wipers off
Lowest position: Intermittent (speed adjusted by knob on centre console)
It's a bit of an odd system and different to ever other car I've ever owned.
This may be a clue. If the knob was missing when you acquired the car
maybe there was a problem with the wiper system.
1] Try turning the knob fully clockwise then putting the lever switch all the way down.
The wipers should have about a 3 sec gap....then turn lever to off.
2] Turn the knob fully anticlockwise then put lever to full down again.
The wipers should wipe approx 15 sec interval.
If that doesn't help then best bet would be to get the loom
checked out by an auto electrician.
Are you sure it hasn't got a rain sensor in the rear view mirror?
My old C2 had the standard knob which adjusted the time between intermittent wipes.
Then I changed to a turbo and it took me a while to realise that the knob on the dash for that doesn't adjust time between wipes but the sensitivity of the sensor in the windscreen glass.
Therefore when it's dry the knob seems to do nothing.
I just thought I'd mention this in case you have the sensor type. You can see the sensor from the outside of the car looking at the windscreen in the area of the rear view mirror. If you have that. You might not.
Hi
Pretty sure its not got sensitive wipers, Out today in the drizzle and pulled lever down knob at max, after about 10 seconds it wiped then wiped after every 3 seconds. I thought great then later tried same thing and wont wipe or just does it now and again. Wonder if the relay is goosed. Defo power to knob as it lights up. Thoughts.
Thanks

I'm pretty sure it goes from one end to the other with sensitivity to the level of rain. Not the timing.
The timing between the wipes depends on how sensitive it is set to. When it's very heavy rain it also automatically changes to double wipe speed.

look at the bonnet sticker and see if you have option 268
That will confirm if you have rain sensor or not.
If you do, knob is for sensitivity.
If not, knob is for wiper interval.
