Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1Original post

My dealer told me that the Cayman will only turn on the passenger airbag if the passenger weighs more than 100 pounds. Many cars have this feature, but I have read on Boxster boards about dealer installed deactivation kits. I thought I had read about this even on the 987, but not sure about 2006 versus 2005. This is a much better solution. Has anyone else heard this.

POST 2Original post

For 2006 the air bags automatically turn off if there is a child in the seat. For 2005 you had to buy a kit.

POST 3Original post

That is correct, by US Federal law cars have to have 'smart' airbags in 2006 and beyond. NO MORE KITS TO BUY!!! Woot! /fckeditor/editor/images/smiley/MWPX/thumbs_up.gif

POST 4Original post

I don't think this is the same as automatic deactivation. A 2006 Boxster S had the 'air bag off' light come on when my 10 year old sat in it. When he sat in the front of a 2006 BMW 330xi, it didn't deactivate the air bags.

POST 5Original post

Could be a weight cut-off difference? It was my understanding that passenger air bags have to cut off below a certain weight as part of the smart airbag regulation. I'd have the BMW checked to see if something is wrong unless your son is right on the edge of the weight limit which at 10 years he might be.
