Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Leading evidence: 'Check with a gauge' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check with a gauge' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I am suspecting a crank position failure on my 996. Whilst researching the matter i read about the lack of movement on the tach needle whilst cranking. What amount of needle bounce are we talking about.? Mine only moves to the very first mark on the dial whilst cranking. Would this confirm the sensor as the most likely issue.? Thanks in advance.

POST 2Original post

The tach needle won't move very far on cranking , as you are seeing movement then i would lean towards its not this . Ideally though you put a noid light on an injector plug and crank .. if it flashes then that's proof its working . .. this will also show up any aftermarket alarm systems . CPS failure is normally a non start with a hot engine which will start fine when its cooled down . Do you have any fault codes ? a lack of any codes and a car that cranks over and i would be leaning towards a fuel pump issue .. need to have the pressure checked with a gauge to prove .
