Our process includes removing the lenses, removing all contents from the housing, removing the old Permaseal sealant from both the lens and housing, thoroughly cleaning the housing, lens and insert from remnants of wiring insulation particles, installation of the RFL kit, optional refurbishment of the harness (replacing every piece of wiring with brand new, automotive grade wires), re-assembly and resealing the lens to the housing using a quality butyl rubber sealant for a lasting, waterproof seal.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Ever since we offered the 996.1 replacement headlight harnesses, I get the question "when will you have the 996.2 harnesses?". Unfortunately, those harnesses have many specialty connectors that can no longer be sourced, most importantly the main connector plug. Then there's the issue of opening the headlights, an undertaking most are reluctant to do themselves. I now offer to refurbish the internal harness as an option together with the install of a Retrofitlab upgrade kit. If your light output is not the greatest anymore, you will be amazed after the install of the RFL kit. Watch this video to see what the inside of your OEM projectors look like after 20+ years: Vimeo Rather than wasting money on a set of after market 996.2 headlights, that will probably not last much longer than 3-5 years, restore your light visibility after dark without ruining the classic OEM look of your 996. I currently have (3) headlight sets in-house for this service. Let me know if you are interested as we would need to schedule it in the coming fall or winter months. Picture of customer's 996.2 Litronic harness, completely taped up with electrical tape (right), and the refurbished harness on the left. This customer's headlights had completely stopped working due to the wires shorting out, and on one side the short had even destroyed the ballast, which we are replacing as well. We can also refurb 996.2 halogen harnesses. As you probably know, a set of 996.2 headlights are $6,000 brand new. Even used you will pay 3500-4000 for a good working set. And even then, you have 20+ year old technology that will fade in comparison to the modern RFL projectors. Ask any questions you have in this thread or feel free to PM me. You will find the available RFL kits here: www.retrofitlab.us Cheers, Adrian

POST 2Original post

Question. I have a 996.2with litronic headlights. Am I able to upgrade to the Bi-LED setup or just the Bi-xenon? and is one better than the other?
