Suggestion
Since testing has often eliminated a physical problem with the switch and the wing can be controlled via test procedures (which eliminated a hardware issue), that kinda leaves software or configuration settings.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
16 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

Odd problem. My 987's spoiler button is not working. It's not deploying the spoiler when I press or press/hold it.
I checked the fuse, it's good. I tried deploying the spoiler with my
Foxwell
NT510 tool and it works. The car was able to retract the spoiler on its own while driving after I extended it with the tool
Since you have ruled out a loss of power by checking the fuse, and verifying it works by using the
Foxwell
, and it retracts on its own when driving, I would venture it’s in the switch. I would pull the switch and try jumping the contacts for opening it. Maybe someone here has access to a wiring diagram for the switch mechanism, but failing that you would need to ring out the wiring to see which wires are load and which are supply. Have a supply of fuses, since jumpering wires may pop the fuse but hopefully you’ll be able to determine if it’s the switch or not. Beyond that, there may be a relay, or two dor that matter, one to raise and one to lower. I believe the convertible top has two relays, one to raise and one to lower, so I wouldn’t be surprised if that is the case.
I doubt it's a relay since the
Foxwell
can actuate the spoiler, plus it retracts. I'm troubleshooting the switch right now
And I have another thing I plan on confirming. I will follow up
I checked the
Foxwell
if it sees me pressing the button for the spoiler. It does, but it takes a while holding it for the tool to see it pressed. I don't know if that's normal for this button but other interior buttons immediately register as activated when pressed.
So my guess is no. I'll just get another switch
So the
Foxwell
does see it after holding it for awhile? Could the contact surfaces not be making a good connection on an initial push or tap? Had something similar on another vehicle recently. After a
battery
disconnection for service and reconnection after, I went to reset the clock and was perplexed as to why it was responding erratically to my attempts. Eventually found after numerous tries that if I pressed it firmly and held it, the display would respond. Possibly before replacement, try spraying some Electrical Contact Cleaner into as much of the switch and its internals. I’ve had good luck with it on many occasions, always keep a can on my shelf. Keep us posted on what you find.
So I went into the Vehicle Electrical System (or it might have been the Rear Control Module) menu in the
Foxwell
tool and I set my spoiler to FIXED and then set it back to RETRACTABLE.
For whatever dumb reason, this fixed my problem and the spoiler button started working again as if it never had any issues.I don't understand this at all but it's working
Same damn issue here to as I thought it was the switch and replaced that, no go. Looking in PWISIS I can see the switch will activate, I can activate the spoiler up and down but single press of the button will not extend the spoiler. Does not extend at speed. Set at Retractable and tried the codeing to fixed back to retractable trick. Still does not work...
Just a thought about the few people having problems deploying the spoiler via console switch and noticing they are people having coding capable code readers.... is it possible you had previously tinkered with some of the spoiler settings? I haven't been in there for a couple of years but I remember there were several programable spoiler settings and I was tempted to try one or more. I remember there were settings for road speed to extend and retract the wing, but there might of been a few others. Often (or mostly) the true effects (or side effects) of coding settings are only cryptically explained.
Since testing has often eliminated a physical problem with the switch and the wing can be controlled via test procedures (which eliminated a hardware issue), that kinda leaves software or configuration settings.
Not sure of the exact wiring of the spoiler on the
Cayman
, but I made a reference to relays based on this diagram for the wiring for the convertible top for a
Boxster
. I believe the
Foxwell
can also raise/lower the convertible top, and since Das Bergen says his
Foxwell
can extend/retract his spoiler, it may be a stretch, but could it be possible that relays may be involved? If not, then as suggested, with all other variables eliminated - switch, fuse, motor; then coding would be the last resort. Hopefully a solution will be found.
Yep, Agree that electromechanial all works since I can raise and lower the wing via Programming. Must be a coding issue but can't see what else could be programmed?
Sucess, I fixed it! I thought I would try my
LAUNCH
scanner to change the retectable to fixed and back trick. Well went under the system modules and found the spoiler was marked not installed, Changed to installed and now it works! No idea in
PIWIS
were there was a place to "install" the spoiler. Maybe some one knows the answer to that!
