Suggestion

I did run an outer housing to both protect the cable and also give a bit more flexibility in how I ran it (and also make routing it a bit easier).

Went that route last year using a bicycle shift cable and routed it to the same spot, behind the fog light housing also.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

2 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1Original post

I cleaned out the frunk, checked the drains, treated all the plastic, and while I was at it, remembered my worry about dead batteries and frunk access, so I cabled up a better emergency release than stock Overall pretty easy as highlighted on a 997 forum. I did leverage my pile of old bike bits for a better fit to the release latch. I did run an outer housing to both protect the cable and also give a bit more flexibility in how I ran it (and also make routing it a bit easier). I chose red so it would be obvious it is not OE for any future owner (not that there are plans for that). It terminates at the side light marker I zip tied it to the electrical wire so it wouldn’t get lost and would pull out with the marker. It is a pretty gentle tug to get it open. Definitely a handy tip was to mark the position of the 2 bolts holding the latch in place. Screws loose: and realigned after tightening up just a nice peace of mind for better battery access in an emergency.

POST 2Original post

Went that route last year using a bicycle shift cable and routed it to the same spot, behind the fog light housing also. Now only need a philips screwdriver, which is on a mini-tool on my key ring to access the battery . Like you, never wanted to rely on the so-called, PITA to reach, ‘emergency‘ release cable. Very easy, inexpensive insurance to being stranded on the side of the road with a dead battery . In the dark. In the rain. Muddy surface. On a slope. How do the engineers who designed that emergency release expect one to remove the wheel, the inner liner, and grasp that tiny bit of cable while facing all the aforementioned conditions? It’s one thing to design it on paper, but they should be tasked with trialing it under those conditions and see if they are happy with the design.
