Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

I have a 2009 987.2 Cayman S that I swapped out the stock 3.4L engine for a 3.8L 997.2 Carrera S engine two years ago. I went to get the car inspected in NJ and I couldn't because the catalytic converters we not in "ready" status. I've since replace both the cats and the O2 sensors , but the car still won't go into "ready" status and my car is out of inspection for over a year. I have a cobb tune on it but I spoke with them and they swore their tune upgrade doesn't impact readiness. I think it probably has something to do with having a cayman ECU trying to control a 911 997.2 engine. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

POST 2Original post

How long ago did you re-power the car/ ECU ? Usually, readiness is lost when you pull the power... and it takes a long drive to have the ECU re-ready everything, as I understand it. On other cars, I've heard about 50-100 miles, but based on what I remember reading on these forums from others, it may take longer on these cars...

POST 3Original post

I've heard that there is some cycle to run to set readiness. No idea if real or myth. For the gen 1 cars it used to be possible to have a tune set readiness. Don't know if possible for gen 2 or if compatible with Cobb .

POST 4Original post

I’ve I’ve been driving like this for several months. Something is stopping the cats from resetting.

POST 5Original post

Ok, how old is the battery then? That can cause these kinds of problems as well. Has the battery ever been dead/jump-started? As you noted, it could also be due to the different engine... I'm not sure you can just swap motors like that without doing a REAL tune, not an OTS tune. Has the car ever been tuned? I figure the car may not ever get "ready" if it doesn't get the parameters it expects...

POST 6Original post

I agree about the tune potentially being the problem. I'm trying to find a good tune guy who might be able to finagle this thing into ready status.

POST 7Original post

I have read good things about Softronics, who does tunes for these cars in general. The question is, can he do a custom tune for you... and can you get to him or what. From what I've read, he may be able to do a remote-tune for you as well, if you collect data for him on your drives, etc... so it's well worth a shot.

POST 8Original post

I actually used to have a Softronics tune on the stock engine, before I swapped it out. I think he's in Connecticut and I'm in NJ so I guess I could get there if need be. I wonder if he'd be able to "overwrite" the Cobb tune that's on there now. I'll call them and see what they say. Thanks for your suggestions.

POST 9Original post

Crazy, I didn't even realize Softronic was right near me! I don't need a tune, but he's just a few cities over from me! Good luck with the tune, and do let us know what you find!
