Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion

There are two wires (they are not wires, they cause the transmission to work) on the side that you wish to adjust, remove the clip holding it in place.

Suspected cause

I don't believe it was the sockets/bumpers for the rear deck lid, but I think I had to go back in and make sure all the timing was correct.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

Hey all, I recently had water intrusion that soaked the body control module under the seat, and caused the convertible top to bend a push rod, break gears etc. I’ve been able to replace all the broken bits and the top is functional again however I can’t get the right side of the lid to sit flush. Any thoughts on what I should do to get this in a better place?

POST 2Original post

Hi @lae11 - Good to see 987 in such great shape after all the work you've put into it! I'm afraid you've got a bit more work ahead, unfortunately. I had the same problem myself a few years ago when I did the overhaul -- but I'm afraid that I'm forgetting what I did to correct it. I don't believe it was the sockets/bumpers for the rear deck lid, but I think I had to go back in and make sure all the timing was correct. I know that ensuring the transmissions on each side were synchronized for the top, but I don't remember if that also included the rear deck lid. What I do remember is that it took a lot of fiddling until I got it right. Hang in there and let us know how you get on with it. Again, great job!

POST 3Original post

Thanks for the encouragement! My daily is a Jaguar F-Pace with a Stage 3 tune and all the bells and whistles, but I still find myself reaching for the 987 keys more often than not, quirks and all. I really appreciate you sharing your experience, sounds like I’m in for a bit more fiddling, but I’m determined to get it just right. I’ll keep you posted!

POST 4Original post

Well after about 5 hours of trying to align the top, the right side was still not sitting perfectly flush, it was still about a half inch off. I Decided to take everything apart — down to the studs, and take my time to carefully measure, grease, and retighten all the components. After a few open-close cycles it’s running and looking better!

POST 5Original post

The way to fix that is by adjusting the transmission. Place the top in the service position. On the back wall you will see the motor that opens/closes the top. There are two wires (they are not wires, they cause the transmission to work) on the side that you wish to adjust, remove the clip holding it in place. Be careful not to pull the shaft out. Use a drill to adjust the transmission to the proper level. Good Luck
