Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

If you don’t reset it, the car won’t know you’ve changed the oil.

Suggestion
That kind of rookie error is for the newbies at quick oil change where I actually had a guy gun one in on the company car because that’s where we took them.

Don’t forget to do your homework on resetting your oil reminder, I don’t know your procedure but given the age it should just be a button push from a durametric or equivalent.

just needs a firm tightening, no fear of one working itself loose.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I am a newbie here and at least so far, have a rather simple query. I wish to do an oil change on my base 08
Cayman
(purchased late last Fall). I would like to add a magnetic oil drain
plug
but cannot seem to find what the thread size and pitch is. Of course I could remove it and measure, put it back in and wait until my
next
change or remove, measure and leave the car while I wait for the mag
plug
to arrive but it's been a long winter and I am anticipating my first drive of the year. Thanks for the help.
Pelican Parts
has inexpensive ones, I think mine is a rennline but I’m sure the cheaper ones are fine. Don’t expect to find much, all the way back to my 944 ( which had a factory magnet) I never saw any evidence of metal shavings, more like a very fine sludge coating. Don’t forget to do your homework on resetting your oil reminder, I don’t know your procedure but given the age it should just be a button push from a durametric or equivalent. If you don’t reset it, the car won’t know you’ve changed the oil.
Thanks for the info and suggestions. I have been installing mag drain plugs in all my vehicles for a long time and as Boris said, have found nothing more than a metallic sludge indicative of normal wear. However, I prefer the preventative nature of this cheap, simple to install modification versus the alternative.
Google is useless as it shows a 10mm, 12mm and 14mm! The consensus seems to be 14 by 1.5 but I would like to be certain. Will check the

info. Thx
+1 for M18 x 1.5mm......
After spenting an hour or two on a friend's
986
in the past, trying to "carefully" unscrew the "almost stripped" drain
plug
, I decided to get this after contemplating LN, and others. Wanted stay away from soft aluminum, HEX..

Additionally, you don’t need to gorilla any drain
plug
into a pan, snug is good. That kind of rookie error is for the newbies at quick oil change where I actually had a guy gun one in on the company car because that’s where we took them. Did he have it set to a specific torque? Didn’t seem that way to me.
Don't need no fancy
plug
- but ALWAYS use a new crush washer. I confess I've reused one when absolutely necessary but then you're never sure when it's properly torqued.
Hydraulic banjo fittings have moved from crush washers to Bonded Seal Washers.
I am going to try one of the copper ones on my next oil change. Should seal as well or better at low-end of the torque range, and copper should be more friendly to our aluminum oil pans than the steel ones.

Totally agree. When I was wrenching in my teens, I was under the impression that the tighter the better was best for everything on a car. Broke many bolts in my days with that vigor.
Torque wrench
? What the hell is that? Granted, lots of measured torque is important for certain parts but an oil
plug
just needs a firm tightening, no fear of one working itself loose. Don’t know if I would use that
Amazon
Votex version, it being steel. Disimilar metals are not a good combination, with galvanic corrosion being a worry. Aluminum to aluminum presents no risk of that, and the crush washer is what does most of the work in this case.
