Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

The only one that is obvious perhaps studs are more flexible if you want to change the spacer/ offset of the wheel , you just use longer studs.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

2 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Seem to be supporting my tyre bloke a lot recently ( blow out and then two nails) . Got to thinking some of my other cars have had nuts to keep the wheel on while the sportier ones have had studs ( series 2 landrover excepted) . Probably been beaten to death already as a topic. So sorry but here goes! Which is better and why? The only one that is obvious perhaps studs are more flexible if you want to change the spacer/ offset of the wheel , you just use longer studs. Not possible with the 'nut' version. Other reasons?

POST 2Original post

I suspect it is all down to manufacturing cost - cheaper to make a bolt than a stud and nut. Personally I prefer the old fashioned stud and nut, as it is easier to line up the wheel when you put it on, rather than find the bolt holes with a heavy wheel located on the centre spigot.
