I've only had my 996 since December but am using Northway on the enthusiastic recommendation of a friend with a 993, I work walking distance from them which also helps!

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

11 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi, I had a slave cylinder replaced recently and the indie waxed lyrical about only fitting a genuine part at a price of £175+VAT (just for the part.) I reluctantly agreed as I knew you could get a Sachs part for £65+VAT from Design911. When I picked it up they advised the part fitted is a 'ZF' part and the invoice showed it as £130+VAT. Only when I got home did I really look at the box they gave me the old one back in, and it has both ZF and Sachs on it. So now I'm obviously questioning if they fitted a genuine Porsche part or just OEM. I don't know if Porsche parts come in these boxes?

POST 2 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I spoke to the garage in the end, they admitted it wasn't genuine, just waiting for a call back re: some sort of goodwill gesture

POST 3Original post

£75+VAT for one of those online. Make them aware of that and how would they like to compensate you...........seeing as the 911uk world are aware of it.

POST 5Original post

I am normally a huge fan of sourcing cheap alternatives but on this occasion I'm not sure the garage has done so much wrong? (Apart from advising original - it's like alternator rectifiers - if the original went wrong, why fit another the same?). There's a difference between a branded German aftermarket and something cheap, Chinese and no name. Perhaps by 'original" they meant or equivalent, or original manufacturer (doubt Porsche actually make them). I'm the end they did save you money over their initial suggestion. Had they invoiced you £175 I might not be playing devil's advocate... Whatever the ins and outs (time spent ordering, credit, stocking costs, inconvenience, next day delivery) it's not unusual for a garage to charge more than a mail order supplier. I'm not so sure they've done much wrong here...

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I think insisting on only fitting a genuine part but then fitting a part from eurocarparts is misleading. If they had said 'yeah we'll fit a Sachs part no problem" I'd be perfectly happy with that, I would have confirmed the price of the part and then supplied my own, or taken it elsewhere if they insisted on charging me £150 for an £80 part. I don't mind paying a bit extra, I know how it works, but I don't want my pants pulled down. Two separate occasions they insisted on genuine. The second time I called them to offer to supply the part and assume all the risk (its a big jump - £80 for Sachs was better than £175+VAT for Porsche-boxed Sachs) but they wouldn't have it. Devils advocate is no problem alternative perspectives are helpful!

POST 7Original post

It's the simple fact they lied, nothing else. For me, once someone tells a blatant porky, they have form that sticks with them for a very long time.

POST 8Original post

As we all know, Sachs make the genuine part, even the Sachs slave cylinder has the Porsche logo ground off. But of course they charged you for a genuine Porsche part (with the logo and box it came in), which isn't very nice. Hopefully they cough up some cash back your way, but it would certainly put me off using that indy again.

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I spoke to the garage, they offered a refund of £55 which I accepted (roughly the difference in price between Sachs rrp and what we can actually get it for. Very apologetic for the confusion. It remains to be seen if the part replacement actually fixes the issue (the slave cylinder was ordered in case it was needed.) I've asked them if they found a fault with the existing one but no reply yet. They seem genuine and came recommended. The next issue will be what to do if the problem returns - stick with the indie or 'cut my losses" so to speak. Northway in Reading isn't far from me and I've read good things about Ray

POST 10Original post

I'm Late too this i'm afraid .. it's obviously a euro car parts item from the box .. My Take .. parts , workshop and service advisors are all separate .. if a mistake has been made then its that service has not made it totally Clear that it's a Porsche part that needs to be fitted .. Parts have ordered the cheaper item to save on costs .. the mechanic will fit what he is given .. as long as its correct he won't question Porsche versus non Porsche item ... I don't condone what has happened but try to offer an explanation other than the garage has tried to screw you over is all .. i kinda know how this sort of thing could happen basically . Northway .. the only other garage in the country i will recommend people take their Targa roof faults to as i know they can fix them .. can't comment on other work but if they can fix a Targa roof then they have my vote . Just to add .. i also fix them EDIT .. I can't remember the original fault you had but master cylinders are more common .
