Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Looking to buy a 996 Turbo but not sure if I should avoid any model years ? Were there changes through its life that I need o be aware of Thanks

POST 2Original post

there's nothing to avoid, just depends what your budget is as to what year/mileage/colour/transmission you'd like, MY03 saw a few tweaks, most items became standard & the very early cars didn't have a glove box! Personally I'd insist on a warranty, preferably Porsche's own. try a search, there's a few discussions around.

POST 3Original post

really depends on your budget as as that would determine what year of Turbo you buy Biggest changes are from Sat Nav systems from PCM1 to PCM2, the latter is worth something nowadays but Turbo's are normally full loaded, so you have to check on exact spec's based on how fancy the original buyer was

POST 4Original post

Look for an X50 option - expensive factory fitted power upgrade which is not necessarily reflected in market value now. Some X50 cars seem to have specs that are comparable with turboS variants but without the ceramic brakes and higher asking price. Otherwise; as everyone says, buy on condition; 996 turbo's are now at a price level where they may not be well looked after .
