Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Cant say Ive really noticed if its immediate or after driving for a while, however it only happens when I change direction, for example from reverse to forward and vice versa..and only one clunk at change of direction...

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hello all
Before I book into an OPC for repairs, wondered if anyone has come by the problem I have with my 2004 C4, when i either drive slightly forwards and then back i get a clunking sound from the front end, sounds like metal taken up slack (backlash) . anyone any ideas,,????
Hi Dejan
Cant say Ive really noticed if its immediate or after driving for a while, however it only happens when I change direction, for example from reverse to forward and vice versa..and only one clunk at change of direction...
its fine while im drving in one direction..
Oh ok, so not a clunk in the suspension (not warranty covered).
Is it a Tip car? Sounds like transmission linkage may need a bit of adjusting if a C4. I'd take it down and let them have a look at it.
Re: hi
but a C4, just adjusted my post above, sounds like transmission issue, dont think something to worry about too much tbh, get it booked in. You do have warranty?
Sounds like front differential to me if you are certain the noise is coming from the front in a C4.
Get it checked, as if it is it may be repairable now, but will immobilise the vehicle and may need a complete new diff if ignored.
Hi Wattie,
Thanks for your response, I have had a closer listen since, and confirmed the clunk only happens when I either change direction foward or in reverse, its just one small clunk and only when i apply the brake.. does not happen if i do not apply brakes.
could be a pad sticking? after parking up for a while, when I move off one of the pads is pretty much stuck to the disc (sounds like front right). it properly stops the car from moving until the clutch is reasonably engaged, then makes a loud click/crack noise and releases. No pulling during normal driving or any other side effects. Yours sounds slightly different to this, but might still be a misaligned pad?
