Suggestion · Original poster

I am aware of how to take it off (especially disconnecting the Battery, and leaving it for at least 1/2 hour to let the Capacitor discharge), but does anybody know if there is any special procedure to follow to put it back on?

This company is pretty close to me so I can run the car into them, and get it done on the spot, hence not having to loose the car for some while.

When you do this make sure you have the key in the ignition or when you refit you will have an airbag warning light that can only be switched off by a Porsch test/diagnostic tool.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Having decided to get my 996 C4S Steering Wheel covered in Suede, I want to take it off and then put it back on after it's been covered. I am aware of how to take it off (especially disconnecting the Battery, and leaving it for at least 1/2 hour to let the Capacitor discharge), but does anybody know if there is any special procedure to follow to put it back on?

POST 2Original post

as you remove it you will have to disconnect the airbag. When you do this make sure you have the key in the ignition or when you refit you will have an airbag warning light that can only be switched off by a Porsch test/diagnostic tool. Where are you getting the wheel recovered? and if you don't mind me asking, what sort of price?

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Senoj, I thought I may have to get a dealer to look at it, now I know why, and can avoid it, thanks! I have considered a number of options, including getting a 'Cup' Alcantara wheel (actually I'm told it's suede not alcantara!), but I don't want anything smaller than my current three spoke, because a smaller wheel will increase the steering efforts. I've seen a Company on e bay in the USA: www.aglausa.com that will do it but with shipping and import taxes I estimate it would be around £400, still cheaper than Cargraphic who would want around £600. Currently I'm talking to two companies in the UK: http://www.mjinteriors.co.uk/ who are getting back to me with a price for covering in Alcantara. They have been recommended to me. http://www.ajtrimming.co.uk/ Who have given me an estimate of £150 max for covering in Suede, not Alcantara, which they do not recommend because it's so thin. This company is pretty close to me so I can run the car into them, and get it done on the spot, hence not having to loose the car for some while. I'll keep you informed as to how I get on

POST 4Original post

that would be interesting thanks.. I have a metropole interior so it would nice to know if they can match the colour, black would look awful. I found a friendly PCGB'er who had a reset tool to do mine. I learnt the hard way when i retroed cruise cintrol.

Description text should continue: I haven't had the Airbag cover covered because I realised that it's not a good idea. For the airbag to deploy in an accident the Airbag cover will have to split open, if it's covered it may just affect that happening. It cost £150 to get it done. If anybody wants deatils please send a PM to me.
