Roger and the guys at Parr had a bash at getting it set so the seat would return to Caroline's position, with no luck.

So do I understand you that when unlocking the car with her key, the seats go to a different position to any of the positions set with the 1, 2, 3 memory buttons?

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi guys, Caroline has got her Turbo back from Nine Excellence who've done a wonderful job on their 9E30 package, uprated Bilsteins, big brake kit. 2 wheel drive conversion with full 2wd geo - we're currently at the limit of the Tip box - around 650bhp so will have that uprated later in the year as there is loads more to come from the current setup. The car is pretty perfect for what she wants, bike like acceleration, comfortable and great stoppers - just one downside, the flipping seat memory! Roger and the guys at Parr had a bash at getting it set so the seat would return to Caroline's position, with no luck. I've trawled the interweb and tried most things that came up and James at Nine Excellence had a bash - he even tried to disable the seat moving on unlock. So - before I pull the seat fuse, can anyone with a three button seat memory (not 1,2 and key buttons) have a trick to getting the memory to behave? The M + 1, 2 or 3 does remember the positions - just not linked to the key. We're off to Spa in early May for a couple of days - I promise to put the GoPro in and get some Akrapovic sounds!! (hoping we'll pass the 106db)

POST 2Original post

How very odd. I don't think I have ever seen one with 1, 2, 3, M buttons. The only ones I have seen for memory seats on the Turbo have Key, 1, 2, M buttons. So do I understand you that when unlocking the car with her key, the seats go to a different position to any of the positions set with the 1, 2, 3 memory buttons? 4 keys can be coded to the car, so maybe her key is programmed to memory 4. Have you another key you can try, which may be programmed to positions 1, 2, or 3?

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks Richard, that's what James at 9E said. Our driver's Manual "WKD 996 120 01 3/00" shows the M 1,2,3 buttons on page 26 - "Operating with person buttons 1 to 3" and to clear the seat memory you press 1 and 3 for 5 seconds! Storing seat position 1. Switch the ignition on with the desired vehicle key. 2. Set the desired seat, lumbar and door mirror positions. If you wish for the passenger's mirror to... 3. Keep memory button M depressed and press the central locking button on the remote control within 5 seconds. (of what taking the key out of the ignition?) I think pulling the fuse and leaving the seat in Caroline's position is probably best.

POST 4Original post

I assume the car is MY2001 then. In step 3 I would press the central locking button on the remote while it is in the ignition, and switched on.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

MY2001 - guess so, delivered on 29/3/01 Tried that this morning thanks, but fuse now removed That's sorted it. Any bugger who now drives it will have to have little legs.
