Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Once repaired, definitely check it is all level and sits perfectly within the seals at the top of the window.
Leading evidence: 'Repair definitely' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'condenser rad' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Check any leak location' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

When I took the car for service Strasse told me it wasn`t working and it was probably a condenser rad.

I heard that it's good to fill up the gas with some special dye, that you can then check for any leak location with a UV light?

When replacing the cable you also need to replace a door membrane.

Took mine to the garage i bought it from today and they say it is the cable and the motor has been damage so they are replacing both free of charge next tuesday.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi Guys
On the way home today and without warning, the drivers window stopped going up and down.
The motor can still be heard although sometimes very noisily and the window moves every so often although mostly up and not down.
I whipped the door card off when I got home but it looks like the speaker and airbag have to come out as well as all the protective foam so I put the card back on until the weekend.
Has anyone else had this problem and can give me any tips as how to fix it ? Has the motor gone ? Cable snapped ?
Any help much appreciated guys.
Steve
How strange, just logged on to see if there was any advice on the very subject. Mine went driving home from Paris last night, not sure what it is but makes a terrible grinding noise and the window drops.
Any advice for us two will be very helpful
Paul
Yep, that sounds like it !
The motor still sounds as though its doing it`s cycle so maybe the teeth have ground off the cog or the cables snapped and is dragging across the glass. Got the window back up, but have to push it down to shut the door properly as the little drop no longer happens
Steve
Did you hear a crack sound when it went? If so, it might be the cable that links the motor to the actual glass bit. You will hopefully be as delighted as I was to learn that the motor is covered under warranty, but the cable isnt as its classed as a 'consumable' item.
When replacing the cable you also need to replace a door membrane. I think parts are c.£110 for the cable bit and £30 for the membrane. Labour is quoted as 1.5hrs by OPC but I would bet both my @ssholes that it takes 45mins.
Once repaired, definitely check it is all level and sits perfectly within the seals at the top of the window. Its important they take the time to align it all properly or you get wind noise.
Alternatively, it might be the motor, or hampsters in the door compartment.
Well I am going to attempt to fix it tomorrow so we`ll see how it goes.
Afriend has said that the glass is held in the runner by plastic clips, the same as Mercs/BMW`S/Audi`s e.t.c. and they are renowned for snapping so we`ll see if that`s the case.
The window has started going up again at times so I think if the cable had snapped or anything worse, then it wouldn`t work at all.

Well, how wrong can you be ! The cable has snapped.
They don`t sell the cable alone so you have to buy the whole thing.
OPC quoted £123
Euro Car Parts quoted £123 ????
OPC it is then
On a better note, my aircons fixed
When I took the car for service Strasse told me it wasn`t working and it was probably a condenser rad. They said I should probably change both at £400. I had the system gassed today fro £20 and all is fine, no leaks and cold as ice !!
Steve
Re: your aircon, if it's leaking, I'm not sure you'll notice this for a few days? I hope it's fixed it for you though.
I heard that it's good to fill up the gas with some special dye, that you can then check for any leak location with a UV light?
PS I had the same issue, filled it with gas it's been fine ever since!!!
Yeh, the guy who did it pressure tested it and found no leaks at all. There was still 7 psi in the system when he started but the pressure was too low and the pump will not start as a safety precaution. Running pressure should be 32psi and was when he charged it
