Never encountered windows like them and I although i did check the manual some time ago my recollection was that it didnt say "hit the switch and hold for no more than 3 microseconds" Lol
Leading evidence: 'safety reasons it's not going' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'safety reasons it's not going' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Check manual some time ago my recollection was' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I read somewhere that it can be reset by holding the switch down for a short time after it has finished fully being raised or dropped.

Is this the reset for the windows or just the reset for one touch operation?
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi guys (and perhaps girls).
My 02 996 is great but since Ive had it the windows have never operated on a one touch basis. The switch has to be held down until it has reached the desired position. Hardly a big complaint but might as well get it sorted.
I read somewhere that it can be reset by holding the switch down for a short time after it has finished fully being raised or dropped. Unfortunately doing this has made no difference.
Any suggestions? Thanks in advance
You have read the manual on the operation right? Answer "no" here I believe.....
You will be expecting it to behave the same as every other car in the universe right where when you hold it down it goes into auto down? Right, well that's your downfall.... in the wonders of Porsche, you need to press it for less than 1/4 second pretty much. It will then auto down...Basically just click it and let it go, it should then go all down for you....It can take a bit of retraining to get it right I found....
Failing this, I can't help
Try what Jeff said first, but if that doesn't work:
Lower the window fully, release the switch and then press the lower part again and hold for a second and release again. Then raise window fully by holding the button, and when it stops, release the switch and then press the raise part again and hold for a second and release again. They should now work in one-touch operation.
If they don't, there are two possibilities:
1.) They have been programmed not to operate as one-touch windows for some reason by the workshop on the instructions of a previous owner
2.) They're buggered!
Cheers guys
It was exactly as Jeff said. gumphh.

I've done what 'Wattie' said to do, but I can only get my Driver's side window to operate one touch, on my 2004 996 C4S.
Has anyone got both windows to operate one touch?
I've now manged to get both front windows to go down with one touch operation, by following 'Watties' instructions, but should I be able to get them to go up with one touch? They don't at the moment. The Handbook is not clear on this. I suspect for safety reasons it's not going to be possible.
Is this the reset for the windows or just the reset for one touch operation?
Johnbull, my windows go up & down with one touch but it is an earlier model than yours
TB
I have heard that they don't remote close on facelift 996's, but didn't realise this also applied to one touch close from inside the car?
However, if it is because they don't have an antitrap mechanism, it does make sense I'm afraid.
However, it astonishes me that Porsche couldn't work out how to do that in 2004, when just about every other car manufacturer in the World has cracked that one! And they can't use the frameless windows as an excuse either, as my 2000 Audi TT had them, as did the Renault Avantime - with the largest frameless door windows ever fitted to a production car! (Mind you, being a Renault, they didn't always work, and a colleague still has the scars to prove it!
)
My windows also both go up and down with one touch (but as per tbrown my 996 is earlier than Johnbull's), unless you turn the ignition off while they are going up or down, in which case you then have to hold the switch down to get them going up or down!
My car is an 03 (facelift) and the drivers window goes up/down with single press operation. The passenger side doesn't (but (IIRC) also has a different button indicating that it isn't automatic). This is a pain, so I'll see if I can programme it as well.
Remote window operation. Holding the unlock button down (from locked), puts the windows down and the roof back. From unlocked, the roof and windows close. I have to hold my finger on the open/close button permanently though.
