My ASK amp broke so I decided to replace it with an aftermarket (Rockford Fosgate 150x2 or soemthing like that) unit. I found some good information here but no DIY so I made one. This is actually an extremely easy mod
1. There are no fiber optics involved with the ASK amp so don't worry about it.
2. Just pop open the trunk, remove the cover where the tire pump is and the amp will come off if you just pull the clips.
3. Here is a wiring diagram. All you need to do is cut all the wires and then hook up the inputs. You will only be outputing to the speakers labeled Bass. The center speaker will not receive power (unless you buy a 3 channel amp or something). There is also a remote trigger as seen in the pic. There is no need to run any other wires.
4. My amp didn't fit with the tire changing parts so I removed it be unscrewing a few torx screws. Now it fits perfectly and I was able to fit all my parts where the DVD navigation would normally go.
5. That's it.
Hello,
I realize this is an older thread but I want to replace my ASK amplifier. I have a few questions if anyone can please provide answers:
1. Does the ASK amplifier only powers the "bass" speakers?
2. If I replace the ASK amplifier, which wires do I connect in the picture from the first post? My current rear speakers are wired directly to the new head unit I installed (
Pioneer
AVH-x3600BHS).
At this time, I don't want to replace the door speakers right now.
I have an 07
Boxster
sound package plus (7 speakers - not
Bose
).
The ASK amp have high-level inputs using all four outputs from the head unit. (not "high frequency" as mentioned in the first post picture) The amp powers the two woofers in the doors, as well as the centre dashboard speaker if fitted. All other speakers are powered directly from the head unit.
The centre speaker output is filtered/formatted in the amp, so using a normal three-channel amp instead might change the sound experience in the car.
The first post picture explains the connections pretty well.
Cheers,
tore
I just replaced my ASK with a Rockford Fosgate PBR300X2 Punch 2-channel amp, $162 on
Amazon
. It's smaller than the factory amp, sounds better, and has more power. I don't have rear speakers, so I used the R/R-R/L inputs, set for low pass. I don't even notice the missing center channel. I made an Aluminum mounting plate that clips into the factory mounts, using the old base as a pattern. I also de-soldered the ASK wiring
plug
, and heavily modified it so I didn't have to cut the harness. I don't know that I'd recommend that, it was a ton of work !
Hello,
I am looking to replace my ASK amp on a 2007
Boxster
987.1
non-
bose system
with a similar-type amp. How do I wire the hi level inputs for the 2 dash and 2 upper door speakers to the amp? Are there 4 inputs or 2 that I need to connect together? And 2 outputs for the door woofers?
Thanks.
