When I disconnected my old slave I just let everything drip out and dealt with the mess so it was half empty before I tried to pressure bleed.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hey all, As Im contemplating changing my master cylinder and bleeding because I suspect I have air trapped in the line since the first time I bled (perhaps incorrectly), I came across this video: You Tube Here, this guy explains how to bleed via introducing fluid through the bleeder valve on the slave and forcing the air up through the line where it comes out the reservoir. Essentially its the opposite direction in which its recommended to bleed for our cars but Im curious if this can be done on the 996 C2. Are there any drawbacks to doing it this way?

POST 2Original post

Just use a pressure bleeder from the top. You can leave it attached do all the calipers and clutch at the same time.

POST 3Original post

Run of the mill pressure bleeder should do it.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Ive done this twice and something still feels off on the clutch pedal. It sticks about halfway up when cold, fine when its warm. Its soft at the top. It engages fine actually, closer to the bottom where theres more pressure. Ive replaced clutch, pressure plate, flywheel, release bearing, slave cylinder. Only thing left to suspect really is air in the line or the master.

I dont see anyway it could hurt to try it this way. Have you disconnected the helper spring to see if that is somehow binding up?

POST 6Original post

Make sure you're bleeding with the clutch pedal depressed. Also, I have had situations where you cannot get air out with a pressure bleeder and I have had to bleed backwards by removing and depressing the slave. This works like a charm. --Aaron

POST 7Original post

The other think to remember expecial when bleeding the old school method is there is a divider tube in the mc resi so if u loose a brake line the clutch does not blead down. U have to keep the level pretty high at all times to prevent sucking air into the system. I pressure blead with the motive tool. It takes about 10 sec to flush. I do it every season and have never had an issue.

POST 8Original post

The pressure bleeder works great for a system with no air in it. When you have a fully drained system with a replaced slave and master, it does not. The reverse bleed is the only thing I can get to work in some of these situations, it was not fun to figure that one out. --Aaron

I am thinking this is probably part of the issue. When I disconnected my old slave I just let everything drip out and dealt with the mess so it was half empty before I tried to pressure bleed. I will try pressure bleeding with the pedal down as I havent tried that. I will probably move on to this other method. I think my master is OK, I dont see any leaks. I do hear some noise though.
