Reported cause
It turned out to be a faulty connection leading to the battery, according to the service technician.
Leading evidence: 'connection leading' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'connection leading' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Disconnect car battery' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

How about taking the battery out of the key and if you can, disconnect the car battery, then connect them again.

Even though I have battery chargers I have gotten so lazy I let it go for three or four months at a time in storage without doing anything except starting it up and letting it run for 1/2 hour during the middle of the winter.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I have only had my CS for 3 days and have already done something to cripple the key!!! I placed the key in the ignition and accidentallt pressed a couple of buttons on the key at the same time. When I turned the key to start the car, everything turned OFF--lights out, etc. The key then became stuck--I couldn't get it out of the ignition. I opened the car's door, closed it, and then was able to withdraw the key. The display lights said "Key 2."
I tried again to sdtart the car and the above happened again. I'm at work, my spare key and the owner's manual are at home. Does anyone have any suggestions?...
Sounds like a dead battery. You can download the manual from the files section here and read the section that tells you how to deal with that. Or you can call Porsche roadside assistance (1-800-Porsche) and they can take care of you.
I do have the card with me. I also called mysaleman and he said the car thinks I'm trying to steal it and that if I wait a few minutes, it will start. But, no luck. When I put the key in the ignition, the radio turns on (even though I did not leave it on) and the inside lights turn on. Then, when I attempt to start it, everything shuts off. The key gets stuck, I open the door, the key comes out and the code Key 2 lights up. Guess I'll have to try roadside assistance. thanks for you help.
Sounds like the battery is fine - for for whatever reason, the ignition is not recognizing the chip in the key, and it's disabling the starting function like it thinks it's being stolen - good feature when someone is trying to steal your car, not so good in this instance. Have them flat-bed it to the dealer, and they can reset the system...

Can I be the only owner in the world to accidentally touch a button while turning the key in the ignition switch? I can't imagine that such a minor thing shoudl cripple the starting function. I would think that too many people woudl end up getting towed. Maybe some other malfunction is to blame. I'm going to try again to talk to the service manager...
Which is your normal key? Have you talked to Roadside Assistance yet; you can always ask them. Let us know the reason this occured when you find out. As brad said it doesn't sound like the battery the way you now describe it.
The flatbed truck is on its way...poor car, only 4 days old! The rep from roadside assistance thinks it is indeed the battery. He said that these batteries tend to do weird things when they're running out--spoilers mysteriously lift up, lights turn on, etc. Now the big mystery is, what caused a new battery to die? And mystery #2, will they give me a Porsche loaner? Stay tuned...
And thanks for all of the quick response to my plea for help!
I've actually heard of a few batteries that were close to or were DOA on new Porsches the last couple of years... so, it's not unheard of... this will be an interesting one to see what happens... better it happened today where you were in a place to call and get help - not on some twisty road out in the middle of nowhere.

Whatever happened to the good old days when all you need was a couple guys pushing or using the hand crank in the trunk?
Seriously, I don't understand all these Porsche battery issues and their quick failures. The battery on my S2000 is going into it's "sixth" year. Even though I have battery chargers I have gotten so lazy I let it go for three or four months at a time in storage without doing anything except starting it up and letting it run for 1/2 hour during the middle of the winter.
we had tons of car batteries die on the car lot; especially as inventory got high and turnover was low... the cars just weren't driven enough, and often you would do demos or leave them unlocked in the showroom and interior lights would be turning on all the time draining the battery. We'd save them over and over again with a jump starter, but with time, the batteries would no longer recharge adequately.
The CS is now home again, and it was quite a saga. The flatbed arrived 2 1/2 hours after the call from roadside assistance. He hadn't been instructed that the CS was in a parking garge with 6' to 9' clearance. Luckily he had a portable battery charger, however neither he nor I knew how to access the fuse box to pop the trunk lid. (I know, I know...read the manual). I managed to catch the sales manager on the phone just before 7 PM, so he explained how to pop the lid. The battery started and I was able to drive it to the truck for towing. (Then the sales manager told me he had no loaner for me, because I hadn't arrived at the dealership by 7!!! I reminded him that I had been waiting for a tow since 4:30. I ended up getting a BMW loaner.)
Long story short, the car hadn't sunk into anti-theft mode and I hadn't messed anything up by pressing a couple of buttons on the fob as I turned the key in the ignition--all coincidence. It turned out to be a faulty connection leading to the battery, according to the service technician. The repair print out states, "diagnosis found poor connection to battery. Clean and resecure connection."
Sorry you had to go through all that - my experience with roadside assistance has been better time-wise - that's waaaaaaaay too long a wait. But, all's well but ends well... at least the loaner wasn't a Kia. Welcome back to

Glad your story has a happy ending. My guess is that for the time to come you will always wonder if your car is going to start.
I had a heck of time starting my Cayenne on Sunday after about two weeks of no use. Finally got it started and it's been fine since, but she'll be at the airport for 4 days
next
week and I'm certain I'll be wondering if she'll start up when I return.
