I am interested in hearing from other Cayman owners who are using the cell phone module.

if you want to be forwarding calls all the time, and don't mind getting a 2nd phone number you would want to do that..giving out 2 cell phone numbers to folks is just not practical....and if the porsche phone solution doesn't work that well to begin with you'd be better off with a bluetooth headset and save yourself a bunch of money and headaches keeping track of 2 numbers...the iphone should likely have a sim as its on the cingular/att network...there is no perfect solution for this if you opt not to use a headset...but if you like smallest possible headsets, just get one that goes into your ear or better yet one of the Oakely sunglasses that you could use just for your car...they have a bu

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

The phone option on the
Cayman
- requiring the insertion of a SIM card, seems inconvenient at the least. I certainly don't want to take the SIM card out of my phone and into my
Cayman
every time I get in my car, and then put it back when I get out. I could get a cloned SIM card, but I understand that if I forget to turn off my cell, my carrier will block both cards.
has anybody figured out an elegant way to use a cell in a
Cayman
? Is there a bluetooth add-on that works well? Any other ideas?
get a headset!
like the lack of ipod integration, porsche really blundered with the cell phone setup...i agree the sim slot is an impractical idea unless you want a separate cell number for your car...given the current options and the interior noise of the cayman (but who is complaining!), your best bet is a bluetooth headset for the road...good luck!
I agree the best system would be an integrated bluetooth system through the
PCM
(as Mercedes has through the Comand) but are you sure if you get a clone SIM card and you forget to turn your cell off your carrier will block both cards????
I will need to check this myself over here in Spain as I was thinking in getting the telephone module for the
PCM
, but if this is true...
Its my understanding that the phone option does not work all that well. Don't know if it has been worked out yet.
Yes, I added a MOT IHF1000, works great, wouldn't be without it and have it in two others cars as well.
It might appear out of place in the pic but from the drivers seat, you can't see it at all and you could mount the controller unit anywhere. The best part is its all voice activated except to hit it once to initiate the call
Taking the topic slightly at a tangent, but does anyone know of a phone that has an easy access sim, like a side slot a bit like the memory card access you get on a Nokia? I hear the
iPhone
may have a SIM slot??
LP
Ive got the cell phone module and although it does not compare to the voice activated blue tooth system I have in the
acura
, it works fine. you can punch a bunch of numbers into the system and its simply a 2 button function to call up the number and dial it. but a voice activation option would be nice.
You can buy a device to clone your SIM card on EBAY. The largest seller of these devices has this warning:
Please note that:
If you use the same phone number in two mobile phone at the same time, your service application supplier will detect that and suppose your sim had been stolen and will block your number.
Since he stands to sell more cards if this were not the case, I assume he is correct.
If you have Cingular and a family plan, for an extra $10 a month you can get a SIM card with a new phone number. This may be one way to go.

2 sims?

Well I have finally asked the different phone carriers over here in Spain and all have replyed the same, you can have up to 5 cards with the same number running at the same time (all phones will ring and you can answer either and the rest will stop ringing). You just have to ask for the service which is 3€/month. It used to be the way you describe long time ago with the old fashioned cards (they told me the name, I just don't remember), so I will finally ask for the telephone module when I order my car
I really hate hearing that it isn't easy. My other car is an Infiniti M35 and the bluetooth phone integration is fantastic. All voice activated, If I am on the phone and pull in the drive, the call switches back to the phone when I shut the car off. Very easy and the quality is very solid also. I was hoping the
Porsche
version would be just as good.
It looks like a bluetooth headset for me...
DO you have nav??
If you dont, you may want to look into a
garmin
nav system that also has bluetooth capabilities for your cell. So now you take care of two things (plus other features) for only 500 bucks! and u can swap between any car realll easy.
I am thinking about doing just that to my car
