Two questions:
1. Is it possible to get the Artist name to appear? I only see the song title appear. When playing from an MP3 CD, you get both.
2. If I go Menu -> Albums -> choose an album, sometimes when it brings up the track listing, all of the tracks are prefixed with a "." and it doesn't seem to let me actually select one. After a bit of time, it will sometimes then say loading and pull down everything correctly. Is this connected to some sort of cache behavior? It seems a little "wonky"... any suggestions?
I have not found a way to display artist. However, if you press INFO on the PCM and select CDTEXT (or something to that effect, the second option) it will display the track title and album name. This is same selection you use to display complete RDS info from the radio.
Can't help you on #2 as I have not experienced that.
EDIT: Disregard this post. When you select CD Info from the INFO screen, for album name it displays the name of your iPOD, not the album name. When playing an MP3 CD, it does display album info but not from the Dension. Sorry for the confusion.
I was gonna post on here the exciting findings some time ago by the user, Roy, who found that when he played mp3 cd's in his PCM, the artist would only display when version 2.3 ID3 tags were used, and iTunes uses 2.2 ID3 tags and thus no artist is displayed.
But then I remembered that the Dension takes the ID3 tags, converts them to cd text for the cd changer to recognize the text because the CDC-4 changer is not mp3, or id3 tag, compatible. I've played cd's with cd text in my PCM, I still only get the album name and track name, never an artist name. Pretty wierd when the album titled song plays, and it shows for example: "How to Save a Life / How to Save a Life"
.
So really the only solution to this would be to use some ID3 tag software to put all your artist names in the title line, a lot of my songs are tagged this way.
Also, I've never seen the dot behaviour either, but I hope you're running version 1.0, as a lot of us have discovered it's the least buggy.

Interesting. I'm not sure which of the dot versions of ID3 I used, but it must have been 2.3 when I saw them display on the screen. I am pretty sure that I saw Artist + Title name from the MP3 CD and that it was not displaying the Album Name (i.e. it was a "compilation" CD).
Well that really sucks. IMHO, there isn't a lot of reason to have a CD changer and an iPod. You'd think that this would be a config option on the system.
That is a real bummer as it means permanently "disfiguring" your MP3 collection.
I am. I wonder if it has something to do with caching. How can you tell what your settings are?? When I put it into config mode, it always says something like:
No text
Text
+Paging
+Caching
+somethingelse
but it doesn't seem to actually do anything (i.e. make the + appear/disappear) when I select them with the forward track button for three seconds.
The pluses are there whether or not you have the option enabled, there's no way to tell whether an option is on or not unless you are using it.
Paging is on if pages exist in your lists, caching is on if it takes only a few seconds to load your track lists, select is on if you can use your scroll wheel to scroll to tracks in the track list.
To disable an option you have to hold << for 3 seconds, to enable the option you have to hold >> for 3 seconds, after selecting each option you have to re-do the flip switch to get back to the config menu.
Also, you're right no reason to have cd changer and iPod, but the PCM only supports cd changers, no iPods, thus the Dension 500 replicates the Porsche cdc4 so that the PCM can control it.

Suneet -- thanks that makes sense. I guess I never figured out how to disable them. I believe I have all three of them on.
I could have sworn that I read about someone else having the "." behavior on the ******** thread. I guess it's time to kick through the thread beginning to end again (groan)...
