Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Therefore I believe it can happen more than once and whats more the alignment / tolerance may have changed such that a new motor is required where it was not before.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I found a few spots of oil in my garage. Had my RMS changed @ 10,000 mi now with 15,000 mi I see spots. could this have happened a second time?

POST 2Original post

It may be unrelated to the RMS, however, to answer your question directly, yes, it can happen a second time and third and 4th time, and so on as well. I think one of our members has had seven replacements so far. What year, model? Pics would be helpful. Hang in... Jim

POST 3Original post

The current Excellence includes a 996 market report; in the report there is a good description of the RMS issue and it seems to indicate that it can get worse over time. I am not an engineer but in layman's terms it sounds like the drivetrain can sag a bit as the car ages - I'm sure someone will provide a better technical description. Therefore I believe it can happen more than once and whats more the alignment / tolerance may have changed such that a new motor is required where it was not before.
