I purchased these items and then drilled a hole through the rubber mount and used a M6 bolt to attach the very strong magnet.

Ive never had a cellphone mount in any car but thinking of getting one for my 996 so I can have a clear visual of Waze and any police notifications when I got for a highway drive.
Are there any good ones that clip to a vent?
https://www.rennline.com/Porsche-996...tinfo/PM01.08/
Vent style will damage your vents easily. The Rennline version is design for your vehicle. Easily installed and works perfect.

That mount is too low for me. I have mine on the dash, above the center vent. It's much closer to eye level. I used a Scosche mount like this one.

Thanks for taking the bullet on this one.
I've been wanting to post a question about this. I've read previous threads on this subject but they're years old and this stuff changes quickly.
The rennline is a good option but I'm looking for one that can mount in a position where there's an over the hood view and I can take a short video once in a while.
I have not used this in my 911, but I bought one of their custom mounts for my wife's jeep and it is absolutely wonderful. Perfect fit, great angle. I'd definitely recommend them.

For those unfamiliar, its a two piece system. A custom mounting base for the specific vehicle, and then you buy the phone mount itself. You screw them together once you receive them and install in your vehicle. The base for my wife's jeep snapped on perfectly. So perfectly in fact that I opted not to use the adhesive strip provided - so removing it and reinstalling it is a breeze.
Cheers

If you want it up high, I’d go with something like a Ram mount that is suctioned to the window. It won’t fall off and you won’t need to use adhesive on the dash.
I have the proclip in all my vehicles, I like the one in my 996, it is a lower mount but works great in the cabriolet in being able to see the screen on bright days.
I have tried all sorts of stuff but found the rennline as the best. Have it in my son's 996 and my 991. Unfortunately, for my 996 I have console delete so I could not use....
Rennlist one looks nice but I prefer mine to be more eye level so I have used this one for about 2 years and it works well in any car. I don’t use the tape so the dash isn’t damaged and I can move it from car to car depending on what I am driving

The vent clip ones work great in my "comfortable" cars, but in the 996 it will eventually tilt downwards due to the bumpiness of the ride due to the weight of the phone. I also found my charging cable to often get in the way of shifting with the higher mount. I ended up folding and getting the rennline one too. Expensive for what it is, but you only buy it once.
I seldom bother looking at my phone while driving but, when I do, I have a very good vent type mount that works in all of my cars including the 911.
However, among the ones mentioned above, I like the Rennline magnetic holder the best.
The only "problem" w/that one is if you change phones and need to remove the metal pad to put it on another phone.
Can you order an extra pad(s) for it in that event? If not, then that is a problem. Not going to buy another one if I buy another phone.
I use the RAM Mount too. I like that it keeps the phone higher up so I can glance at it quickly while driving rather than having to look so far down too long.
As I have the GT3 Console delete as well, I use one of these. It first in the upper cup holder, which is very convenient.

Below is what I've found to fit the bill. Another upside is with the far-right placement, I now have use of my backup radar detector which was blocked by the other unit I was using.

This unit wraps completely around the vent fun and locks on very tightly by screwing the fastener down. Holds the phone completely still even with coilovers.

For iPhone users who have moved to wireless charging, the ProClip 996 mount (#852428 no tools or side panel removal required), plus their Magsafe charger holder (plus Apple's Magsafe charger of course) is the perfect setup for me.
https://www.proclipusa.com/products/...agsafe-charger
I put off going to wireless charging for a while (it's slower) but I've now gone wireless in first my home, then my Volvo semi, and now my newly acquired '01 C2. If you tap the phone with your pinky finger accidentally, it will fall off, but while driving it has never fallen off, not even in my semi truck. I'm now a convert.
P.S. The ProClip 996 mount doesn't show any holes to add their Magsafe holder to it. Customer service explained that the photo was of a prototype, and my mount did indeed come with all four holes as promised.
After messing with vent-clip and suction cup mounts, my solution was a CarPlay equipped stereo. Its a game changer and I wont ever go back to driving a vehicle without it.
I’ve tried several vent mounts and not happy with any, as the vents are hardly sturdy enough, and am concerned about eventually damaging the vent. I want the phone up near my field of vision, but not in the windshield or glued to any dash section up near the windshield. For me, this also ruled out the well regarded Rennkit mount. After trying several, I’m very happy with a Spigen mount (pics attached) that while mostly intended for vent mounting also, has jaws that open enough to grip onto the fixed moulding that surrounds the vent. More importantly, the clamp has a threaded ring that tightens the clamp, so it’s not just relying on spring pressure. The mount also comes with an extension arm, but I didn’t find I needed it.
BTW, I’m using an iPhone with a MagSafe case and mount, but I believe there are versions of this mount that clamp onto a phone also.

Plus one on the pelican parts, plus if you add the blue tooth phone/satellite/usb gizmo in the cigarette lighter its a very neat look, short charging cord.

Question for any using the Rennline mount. Does it have phone low enough (in my case iPhone 12) so it leaves enough space for access to plug in a usb charger and cables in the cigarette lighter right above where it mounts?
My former phone, and iPhone 11 Pro had plenty of room for the lightning cable to plug in.
I also have a question. Has anyone come up with a way to use the Rennline mount with an iPhone 15 Pro (MagSafe)? The magnet on the mount does not hold the phone, at least through the case.

How is it no one in here has mentioned Yaz's mount... Support your honest, ingenious forum members.
https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...one-mount.html
Apparently I have been under the "not looking for a cell phone mount" rock for the past year. I have the Rennline mount, but it is apparently not compatible with my new phone/case combination, without me sticking a steel plate to the back of the case, which I do not want to do.
The Yaz mount looks like it would be a better solution any way you look at it. I will look through the thread for the link to the mount website and get something going with Yaz.

Let me know if you have any questions Doug. The website is rennclassic.com
Most popular option has been the 17mm ball mount. And it seems most people use the ESR Halolock magsafe charger (available on Amazon). I'm also going to be testing out some of the magsafe stuff from Quadlock (
https://www.quadlockcase.com/collections/mag
) in the next month or so.
Thanks a bunch Yaz. Order placed. I'll figure out the phone to 17mm ball mount interface once I receive the dash mount. It is a little of a conundrum for me. I don't really need the MagSafe charging due to my wired Apple CarPlay. (I know already obsolete). I would like to find something compatible with the ball mount that will have enough magnetic power to hold the phone securely. Any suggestions? Or maybe I should move this over to your thread?
Thank again all,
Doug
Great! This is one (

) I'm using in both my 996 and 4Runner that I mentioned above. I have had the phone fall a couple times in the 996 when hitting large potholes (as in large enough I'm more concerned about tire/wheel damage). For anything stronger you're probably looking at a mechanical mount.
I'm using the magnet from the Rennline unit. It's just a magnet, no MagSafe-ness about it. I haven't had a phone fall but it does rotate.
I got one of these from Amazon for my Caterham. That magnet feels like the hand of god reaching out. I may look to see if it's a 17mm ball.

Thank you!! What a great solution! It took me a number of trips to Lowes and Home depot. Although I figured out that a
Size 10 Rubber stopper
works great if you have the pictured console tray(s).
I purchased these items and then drilled a hole through the rubber mount and used a M6 bolt to attach the very strong magnet.

I posted this a while ago but my car has the cassette holders under the radio. I pop the bottom one open and turn my phone sideways. It rests on the little ***** for the cassette holes and tucks under the bottom edge of the radio with a little bit of tension. Works like a champ (iPhone 13 mini).
Has anyone tried these two? Different options and eye level. I have a boxster otherwise I'd use the yaz mount.

the Rennline is nice but too low and blocked by my Etsy cup holder.
The one from Renn Classic is a game changer. Best mount and position out there.
its not letting me post a link. Google Renn Classic Hazard Mount.
I already have a full Quad Lock system and the phone is completely secure and in the perfect position.
Try Pro Clip. I have used it in several vehicles, including two Porsches, one of them being a 996.
I have been very satisfied. They even make one that is magnetic for the newer iPhones, and with or power directly to the holder. Here is the link:

I don't like anything covering the vents or controls. So made my own. Used two strong phone magnets so I can orientate the phone to use the syvecs BT app.
I'm invested in Quad Lock for biking and decided to try their
Quad Lock Vent Mount
.
The mount is secure on the vent and sits just below the dash. It has survived D.C. roads pretty well so far and is pretty discrete.
Basic mount is $40 with available magnetic and wireless charging options available.
Excuse the mess!
Love my quad lock on my bike.
Decided to order
this
this
ball mount and use with quadlock.
I'm going to put in a rivnut in dash to thread it into. I dont like permanent stuff like a hole but I can buy another trim price if I want to revert back.
I was inspired by
this
reddit post.
I'll circle back once it's installed.
Appreciate the suggested vent mount. I stay away from those because old brittle plastic will eventually fail after a few good hits and lots of heat cycles from th vent. Also I need all my vents for top down driving
Found black stainless 1/4-20 rivet nuts on Amazon and it turned out pretty good. I would put the hole about 1/3 inch higher. I used the tightening washer/collar as a template for hole placement, but ended up not needing it. But it still works great. Had to open hole up on quad lock for the 1/4-20 flat head bolt since quad lock uses an M6 I think. Still sat flush enough with the 1/4-20.
Again, would've mounted 1/3" higher since I didn't use the tightening collar. But still works fine as is.
Back side looking at rivet nut. Would've made hole tad smaller but it'll do called for 9.1mm hole per table for rivnut tool, but my SAE bits closest size is 9.37mm.
Without quad lock, 1/4-20 threads ready for another mounting system.
Yea i saw that and dont like wedging things in the cracks/seems between already iffy interior panels. But if it works great for you then rock on! nothing wrong with having more options for a solution.
