Any ideas what could set the alarm off but not make the immobiliser kick in like this?

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Would have been great for cutting through traffic 8) If I could control it... and maybe get little flashing blue LED too. Anyway would appreciate any help.... got in to my 996 today after unlocking with the fob, fired her up and after a couple of seconds later the alarm went off. I decided to drive back home rather than be a spectacle for the hundreds of people in the car park at the time! It continued sounding for around 1 mile, with brief (2 second) pauses every 30 seconds or so. It stopped sounding without me doing anything in particular. - It was raining heavily yesterday but the but the electrics under the seat are bone dry. - The battery seems OK but the engine has always cranked a bit 'lazily' when starting. - I think a genuine alarm sounds the siren AND the horn. I could only hear the siren. When I got home everything seemed normal. Any ideas what could set the alarm off but not make the immobiliser kick in like this?

POST 2Original post

If it's a genuine alarm then an OPC or indy can read the alarm codes for you to tell you why it went off.

POST 3Original post

Sounds like a dud battery to me, based on the symptoms quoted above. Have a look at the FAQ section of the 996 forum and read the battery thread. Also - horn doesnt sound as well as siren.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yup was the battery. Had the butler come out and change it (Porsche Assist). Thanks guys.
