Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi My girlfriend took out our C4S for a drive tonight, stalled it at some traffic lights and the car refused to start. The Porsche Assistance chap told her that the battery needed replacing. It would cost us £150 for a replacement (official Porsche battery). I was surprised that a battery would cost that much so will try to recharge it instead and see how we go. The car is not used very much so not surprised the charge has drained. Does anyone have any advice on this area? Any similar experiences and cheaper solutions?? Cheers

POST 2Original post

Hi Cookie, Go and pick up a nice new Bosch Silver battery, shouldn't cost you more than £90-100 in the usual places. The Porsche battery isn't a particularly good example and like you I'd be loathed to buy one from them. BTW the £150 for the battery doesn't include the £90 to have it fitted Quite a few of use a CTEK 3600 battery conditioner for the time the car's not on the road, it keeps the battery topped-up whilst having the ability to recharge and recondition a totally flat battery. Hope this helps! Damian

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for the advice Damian. Looks like you've saved me at least £100! Worth the effort asking the question :thumb: Cheers Cookie

Don't hesitate to get a new one. It's the best feeling when you get in the car and it just goes My bat was dying after leaving the car for more than a week. Now with a new bat I get around three weeks before it starts to complain at me.... I seriously think I'll just cough for one once a year for peace of mind....Daily drivers though will get much more life out of them....
