I am told that this siren has it's own power source, (obvious really, if it goes off with the battery disconnected!) and that the way to overcome it is to turn on the ignition with the ignition key, before disconnecting the battery.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have a 2004 C4S fitted with a PCM (3.0 version). If for any reason I disconnect the Battery, will I then need to enter codes (Radio and Nav codes) into my PCM? When I bought this used car recently I was not give any codes. Should I have been? I'm confused because I have researched this question on various forums, but see conflicting answers! :x i.e. My unit never needs recoding because it has an internal memory that always retains them! Or, I should have/need both a Code Card PCM and and Code Card Navigation! Which I don't have, and it will cost me a fortune to get them!

POST 2Original post

Battery removal on 996 TT Hi. I had the same worries. Just changed the battery on my 996TT 2004 I have the PCM2 and had no problems. However the moment you remove the old battery the alarm is activated and is extremely loud. Have earplugs in and the new battery ready to replace instantly or you'll blow your eardrums & upset your neighbours.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks! Re: The siren going off. I am told that this siren has it's own power source, (obvious really, if it goes off with the battery disconnected!) and that the way to overcome it is to turn on the ignition with the ignition key, before disconnecting the battery. This is supposed to stop it sounding off. I haven't tried it yet, but I will have to overcome it somehow, because I am going to have to leave the battery disconnected for some while, whilst I take my steering wheel and airbag off to get the wheel covered in suede. I can't leave the battery connected and remove the airbag, because if I do the airbag warning light will come on and then it's a trip to my Porsche dealer to get it fixed.
