Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

Anyone know what company makes the Porsche CD changers and are aftermarket ones available to use with the pcm system.

POST 2Original post

I believe it's a pioneer changer. I may be wrong, but I distinctly remember reading it was a Pioneer, somewhere. If I'm right, I bet you can get an aftermarket changer instead of going with porsche. Thats what I did for my MB CLK. MB uses Alpine units. I went to Sound Advice and they knew exactly which changer would work. (I think it cost me $250, don't know what Porsche charges)

POST 3Original post

Porsche charge between $600 - $800 depending on the discount for a $200 changer. I am not prepared to pay that. I might just go with a ipod hook up when they work the bugs out.

POST 5Original post

I believe the CD changers are made by Becker, as is the head-unit and amplifiers. brad

POST 7Original post

Here is a link that I found on the Rentech site discussing this very issue. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=512&st=0 Apparently the Becker unit is the only unit that will work in a Porsche due to their proprietary extensions, and the units are sold exclusively by Porsche. Looks like they have carefully locked us into having to pay them four times the value of the parts. I'm still watching the D3 threads to see how the first few installs go, but I did read some independent reviews, and they were rather hard on the D3 because of poor screen quality and the need to remove your Nav DVD in order to play music (no hard drive). There seems to be no easy answer to fixing this crappy sound system.

POST 8Original post

The cdc-4, IMHO, is crap; lots of people complain that it skips cd's and it doesn't play mp3's. If you must have cd's...You can hook up any cd changer to the car via a wired FM modulator, or if you're really particular about your sound quality, get the Dension IceLink and hook up a cd changer through the aux-ports on the IceLink. You will have to have a separate remote to change tracks and cd's on your changer, but your options are endless... cd changers (with mp3 support), dvd-audio changers, music kegs, etc.
