If the battery is disconnected long enough for the power to die completely (I guess there must be an internal back up because you can change the car's battery without losing the settings) your friendly dealer has to reset the unit through the diagnostics.

I have a near side rear fog lamp out on my 996 targa, it's not the bulb or fuse, anyone know of any problems in this area and any solution to what it might be. :? The foglight is a quirk of Porsche. Only the offside one is wired up even though there is a bulb in the nearside one, so you dont have a problem there. On the facelifted car the radio doesn't have a code. If the battery is disconnected long enough for the power to die completely (I guess there must be an internal back up because you can change the car's battery without losing the settings) your friendly dealer has to reset the unit through the diagnostics.

I had the same concerns, just after I bought my 996! With the non working LHS rear fog lamp, I have tried but failed to get it working. It's not a blown fuse, or a missing fuse, I've checked all the fuses thoroughly, and also put fuses into those box positions that don't have any, with no success! I have looked at a circuit diagram but it isn't clear where the wiring ends up, so I can't get to it. What is clear, because I checked it, is that the wiring at the bulb is not 'live' when the rear fog lamp switch in 'on', so it's not getting a feed. Short of running my own wiring to it, I'm stumped :? With codes, I have a PCM2 not a Radio/Cd player, and I am assuming that it requires no codes either.
