although I dont have any children just yet (!), I've had to bribe my good freind's 5 year old to help me clean the rear windscreen of my Gt3, which sporting it's bucket seats and roll cage mean it's near impossible for an adult to get into the rear and get the rear windows cleaned !

The fact that you can just about get two kids in the back was an important factor in our choosing the 996, we wouldn't currently use it for a long journey though, but I suspect it will get used more with the family when the baby moves into a booster

The 996 Targa has a very useful hatchback which does allow much more stuff to be carried (changing bags etc)

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I'm in the market for a 996 right now but the wife is giving me grief about how impractical it will be :x . She is not saying no but thinks that kids will not fit in the back. We have an 18 month old and another due latter this year. We have a family car so the Porsche would not be used that often for the whole family but on a nice day it would be great to take everyone out  So the question is would it be usable on occasion for 2 small children with a small buggy in the front boot??? Thanks Chris

POST 2Original post

Hi I have a 11 y old and a 3 y old both fit easliy in the back, the 3 y old in a child seat. Its the buggy in the boot i would worry about you would need at get a C2 and not a C4 i have a C4 and there no way a buggy would fit unless there are some mr gadget buggys around Stu

POST 3Original post

I don't think you will struggle getting the kids in, up to teenagers should be fine, but I just tried fitting my sons stroller in the GT3 and not a hope in hell, I would worry more about that side of it, than getting them in. Good luck convincing your wife. Max

POST 4Original post

Hi - You'll get the kids in no problem with appropriate booster/ child seat - I think you will struggle with a buggy though - unless you get a roof rack  - Simon

POST 5Original post

There is a Quinyy buggy that fits in the front of a 996 - not sure which one but head off to your local quinny emporium and try them out.

POST 6Original post

No problem with kids but if you need a buggy stay away from the 4wd variants as the boot space is much reduced. The 996 Targa has a very useful hatchback which does allow much more stuff to be carried (changing bags etc) Happy hunting

POST 7Original post

I have a 5 year old and an 18 month old and manage it fine with a 996 cab C2 as an occaisional car. Careful selection of car seats is needed but well worth it, both my kids absolutely love going out in it.

POST 8Original post

My kids have been travelling in the 996 C2 for the last few years with full sized car seats quite comfortably (now aged 9 and 6). Just using booster seats now though. The 996 is great for headroom in the back, which used be be an issue with older 911s. Not that it matters much as the kids like to have the roof down most of the time. We have had several long family weekends away with the wife, 2 kids and luggage. Of course we would not have been able to do this in the old days with travel cots, push chairs, nappy boxes and all the other gear that accompanies very young children. If you're looking for a great 996 C2 Cab, mine will be going into the For Sale section very soon. Good luck with the wife

POST 9Original post

How tall are you...? I am 6'2" and whilst I have no kids (that I know about...) there is absolutely no legroom between the back of my drivers seat and the rear seat, so no space even for little kiddy legs.

POST 10Original post

I have a 1 year old and a 5 year old, the 5 year is no problem; she's in a Cybex booster which fits perfectly. The 1 year old sits in a Mamas & Papas Pro-Tec Car Seat which just about works. The Quinny Zap buggy fits into the front of a C2 whilst leaving room above it for a few bags of shopping etc. The fact that you can just about get two kids in the back was an important factor in our choosing the 996, we wouldn't currently use it for a long journey though, but I suspect it will get used more with the family when the baby moves into a booster

POST 14Original post

Well Dave beat me to it, you can't beat the hatchback of the Targa model for lifting very small kids into and out of the rear seats. I don't have children but I do find with the folding rear seats, taking luggage in and out is made so much easier. ~ Maxie

POST 15Original post

I'm a big chap, hence Big Bob so I need my seats right back. I used to get my 3 sons (not small either) in the back of my 1985 Aston V8 Vantage until the older ones were in their early teens and the youngest was 9. Now I think for 2 kids in the back only, the Porsche is OK for upto young teenagers. Bear in mind the distinct seats in the back stop the nudging  and hitting  that usually kicks off the in car rows and world war 3 :frustrated: . The secret is getting she that must be obeyed :worship: on side however. With that I cannot help. After 36 years of marriage I've only just learned the magic words that bring marital harmony - Yes Dear :nooo: Previously I did exactly what I wanted  Regards Big Bob
