my only slight issue was the 11mpg i got 2 days ago on the drive home (bad bad traffic)...

Well, I did the same thing (sold car) 2 years ago, regretted it, changed back again and that little episode cost my about £18k....I believed the rubbish being spouted in the press and they've been trying to talk this country in a recession for how many years now, 10?

been forced to increase budget for the impending house purchase so taking a 'break' from the toys...

ps. i wouldn't believe the scare-mongering about house prices... i can personally confirm that decent houses in desirable locations still have multiple buyers!

think there is some sensationalisation of underlying trends. Sure, consumer confidence has taken bit of a hit due to headlines, but the UK is in a VERY different position to our friends across the atlantic...
agree credit is readily available, what i've seen though is some caution on valuations to support the credit. C&G would budge on my re-mortgage of the BTL (great rate too) which leaves me filling in the gap with cash or looking at another product...
I'd agree as well, BBC and other reporters are a disgrace with their sensationalism and limited "factual" reporting...but I guess that's how they can justify such large salaries.
This is why I have to buy Private Eye to get a balanced view. Their digs at the press and how they report stories is sarcastic humour to say the least.
However, it's clear that the City (and company's that sell to them) will take a hit in terms of staff this year and next. We are already seeing a large tail off of services in this area.
That said, I think the industry in general has got a bit flabby and probably needs a bit of a shape up.
I certainly wouldn't let this put me off buying a house right now. In fact, I'd go a stage further and look to work out how I could move and still afford the keep my car, why?

(can't believe i'm saying this just a few hours after putting the ad up!).
my only slight issue was the 11mpg i got 2 days ago on the drive home (bad bad traffic)... but then maybe the solution is to get the golf anyway and use that for the commute.... (else it means i lose a £500 deposit!)

yup - took one that was in stock already as the discount was a bit bigger.
my commute involves a bit of traffic sometimes, so didn't have the same dilemma between manual and DSG.
cost a few extra quid b/c it had the optional recaro's but i like those seats anyway so bit the bullet and ordered it. candy-white, so lets hope it stays fashionable!!
Yup, the very same ones!!
i'm hoping they're a bit lighter than the standard seats so hopefully compensate for the extra weight of the 18" monza's (which are a heavy wheel i think!)
was thinking about swapping the monzas for some BBS CH's but they'd cost around £1800 (incl tyres) which is too much additional spend (although its what the lawyers are charging me for the house purchase)!!
