Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Suggestion
I just connect the 2 wires from starter switch together and check operation, it should turn over without pushing the pedal.
Leading evidence: 'Check operation' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check operation' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.

Engine might redline right then and there after setting the cruise with clutch disengaged.

Why would you want to set the cruise control with clutch disengaged ?
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Initially there was not one in it so it cranked without mashing the clutch, but cruise control did not work
Hen I got my Porsche I put in this orange relay that allows the motor to crank when the clutch is compressed fully. It also allows the cruise control to operate. Sometimes I have to mash the clutch 2 or 3 times for the motor to crank. Today I didnt drive it due to the motor not turning.
later Im home and checking it again and the motor finally cranked.
now Ive reached up & manipulated it some. Its doing better & sometimes has a delay before it cranks.
could that relay be bad? Its been doing this since I put it in. Initially there was not one in it so it cranked without mashing the clutch, but cruise control did not work
You have 2 switches on the clutch pedal, one is for the starter won't engage unless depress clutch pedal, and one for cruise control. I just connect the 2 wires from starter switch together and check operation, it should turn over without pushing the pedal.
If it were me, Id remove what you put in that defeated the clutch switch(s). Those systems are put in for a good reason. I see absolutely no benefit to defeat them, do you?
If the car is on cruise control going at hyway speeds and you push in the clutch even a little, good chance you over rev the engine and maybe burn/glaze the clutch, because you just disabled your control of the throttle when you need it, not good.
Why would you want to set the cruise control with clutch disengaged ? Engine might redline right then and there after setting the cruise with clutch disengaged. Again no reason for this I can see? But maybe I've missed something..?
I guess Im off understanding here! When I bought the car an orange relay was there. Cruise control would not work but it cranked up without engaging the clutch.
I replaced the relay switch (or whatever its called?) and it works like it should. Only cranks when the clutch is fully depressed. Cruising stops when I mash the clutch or brake.
Sounds like the cruise switch is working OK but the clutch switch is sticking is releasing when you bang the clutch a few times. I miss flying the J3 Cub, then a buddy took it out and skim the wheels on the rice fields and crashed.
Yes it must be sticking. When its warm it does not stick.
my Cub has been down since December. Accidentally bumped a wing strut & its crazy getting my A & I out here. Getting ready to paint the new struts & finally get them on , then the annual so I can fly!!
Isn't that it in the top right and bottom left of the top and bottom photos respectively? Appears to have a zip tie around it,,,,always a good sign
Has one brown(?) and one yellow/purple wire attached.
I'll see your J3 and raise you a Pa28-236!
Look to the top of clutch pedal. Take out knee bolster and seat too make it easier for under dash work if your not a young limber man...
Red switch on top is for cruise control kick out, its not the start switch.
