Suggestion
I drive in Europe a fair bit, and I much prefer the ergonomics of LHD (you are much more balanced physically using left leg and right hand at the same time for gear-changes - hence most race cars having a RH gear shift).
Leading evidence: 'Replace radiator and condensators, all brand new' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'only thing i would concider upgrading' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace hence most race cars having a rh gear shift)' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

This is probably the only thing I would concider upgrading to when I sell my 996 cab.

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Well, finally after a few months of search, lots of grief and lots of viewing cars, Im a proud owner of a 911 turbo.
Initially I was searching for a GT3. But I was persuaded not to buy it by the lovely chaps at PCGB and they were right - my first Porsche shouldn't be a GT3, alas, I was totally honest and said my driving experience with sport cars was somewhat limited - im not a slouch but by all means an average driver.
So I turn my search to something quite sensible - a C4S. Was getting worried, hard to find a good LHD C4S. Importing seemed the only option.
Until a PCGB member drops me an email saying that he had a 911 turbo that he might would be selling due to low usage. I went to have a look and immediately fell in love - super well maintained car, proper driving experience, no rattles, all issues addressed very recently in a big big service, OPC warranty and always serviced there. The pile of invoices is bigger than what a tax man carries after a month of work.
Still, since Im not very experienced with Porsches , I asked Peter Morgan to have a look at it. He gave his thumbs up, praised the car very highly and I bit the bullet. Under my budget.
Now, due to my and the owners schedules, Im only be able to pick her up in Friday. But contract signed, money wired, the lot .
Man, these are going to be 48 painful hours of waiting.
Still, here's a pic of her.
996tt, lapis blue, 36k miles, manual.
So well, here I am, saying hello
Hi,
Welcome to 911uk and congratulations on the purchase...looks fantastic.
Out of interest, what made you decide on a LHD model, are you planning lots of European holidays?
Several reasons :
although I live in the UK for few years now, Im originally from Portugal and we drive LHD there.
also, at one point ( possibly next two years or so ) Im planning in going back home, hence buying a LHD makes sense.
last but not least, my next two holidays are already planned with the Porsche .
all that considered, I really wanted a LHD car.
Funny thing though : you get , for example, a much CHEAPER and BETTER car today in RHD than in LHD. A C4S in RHD ( 996 ) starts at 35-35-36 but the good ones hover at 38-39-low 40's. LHD ? Nowadays hard to find a good one, you seem only to have the very bad ones. Getting one from germany ? Good ones start at 41... Long gone are the days that LHD meant cheap cars.
So I'm very happy that I found a LHD car in top notch condition ( confirmed by the PPi and even the OPC when it went now to address some minor things prior to sale ).
Congrats ... looks great
What's the year / spec, and if you don't mind me asking, purchase price.
This is probably the only thing I would concider upgrading to when I sell my 996 cab.
Sounds like a LHD is perfect for you....the drive down to Portugal will be awesome!!!!!
I was particularly interested, because my friend had an Integrale (years ago), which was a fantastic car, seriously fast...just a little scary when overtaking!!!
Interesting about the money, I hadn't really thought about this.
I would have bet money that (modern) LHD cars are generally cheaper in the UK (I would have guessed by about 10%), the 997 certainly is...however, I would say that a decent C4S in RHD are about the price you list for the LHD model...I've not seen anything in C4S for less than 38k, with reasonable mileage and history..they certainly seem to be holding their price better than the narrow bodied cars.
Importing from mainland Europe is probably not as good as it used to be, certainly when considering the strong Euro and import taxes.
That looks fantastic and it's made me think...
I drive in Europe a fair bit, and I much prefer the ergonomics of LHD (you are much more balanced physically using left leg and right hand at the same time for gear-changes - hence most race cars having a RH gear shift).
Also, with that much torque, overtaking isn't going to be too much of a problem if you hang back a little bit to get a better view (or have a brave and trusted passenger!)
Surprised that they are more expensive than RHD though
> you are much more balanced physically using left leg and right hand at the same time for gear-changes
Again, that is something I'd never considered before. Interesting about the racing now you mention it.
I, personally, don't have much trouble balancing my accelerator and left (or right) thumb!!!
No problem what so ever - 2001 ( feb ), sports seats, full leather, turbo2 alloy's, sat nav ( PCM1 though ), electric sunroof, usual turbo spec.
brake discs all around ( front and rear ) plus pad's changed couple of months ago, they are brand new - inspection confirm this.
also the previous owner changed the radiator and condensators, all brand new. and put a major service on it.
mecanically the car is a gem - both OPC and Peter Morgan ( who did the PPI ) said this.
I paid 38k for the car - was a very good price, but not a bargain - remember , its a LHD.
People told me that a car like this in RHD would fetch 42/43k but since its LHD I would have to take 4/5k off. Since I wanted LHD rather than RHD, suits me even better - for C4S money, I got a mint turbo.
What made me really think about the turbo was the fact I drove a couple - these things are F-A-S-T !
Funny thing though - drove a few C2's and liked it very much. When I drove the C4S I was expecting the car to feel much more "planted" but didnt feel so ( at least at moderate speeds ). Tribute to the excellent C2.
Turbo's ? well.. very different league. If a C4S is a drug, its like a good glass of cognac - elegant, superb but if you dont take precations it will bite. a Turbo ? eheheh kinda like a liter bottle of absynth gulped down - fast, furious, no turning back.
This should be called the widow maker but the license widow - going to be HARD !
Anyhow, have already start planning a road trip in a month and a half, which going to take almost two weeks and going from the UK , feryr to Netherlands ( near Rotterdam ), down to Belgium via Germany, down to Luxemburg, up to North france, ferry from Calais to Dover .
Cheers for the comments !
