Anyone find a good mod or module to add a flashing feature to the third brake light.
(like a motorcycle)
Preferably one that does not throw a lamp out error?
Your best bet is probably one of the ones made for motorcycles. I'm a fan of Hyperlites.
Hyperlites Flashing LED Motorcycle brake lights, White LED Running Lights and Turn Signals
They're amazingly effective - I have them on the back of my motorcycle (got them after being rear-ended by a cell-phone talking fool..) I have fun with them. Typically people see them really well and stop some 20 feet or so behind my bike. If I let up on the brake pedal the cars will start to do the usual "fill every space" sort of creep forward. All I have to do is touch the brake pedal again, which sets off the flash pattern on the Hyperlites and I watch the car lurch to a halt behind me.
If you have some specific idea on what you'd like to do, it might be worth talking with them. Perhaps you can put their flashing module in-line with the stock LED 3rd brakelight to convert it to a flashing light. They might be interested in developing something that would work on Porsche cars. Barring that - you might consider one of their kits and mounting the LED light modules to either side of your license plate (where mine are on my motorcycle). That would be easy to do using their standard simplest model. There is a hole behind your license plate that would allow you to run the wiring up and to one of the brake lights, then use Positaps to connect it. The Hyperlite kit comes with some flat links allowing for use on a motorcycle license plate that might work fine with a car license plate.
Information that comes up when one Googles whether flashing brake lights are legal, seems to indicate they are not in some states and tickets can be issued. There also seemed to be some distinction between lights that flash a few times versus those that flash the entire time the brakes are applied. Might be worthwhile to check your state laws before embarking on this modification.
I've had this brake light flasher on my 07
Cayman
for the past 7 years... have been all over the east coast and have never had issues because of it..
This is what I installed... has many user programmable modes, you can program steady flashing.. a decaying sequence, the number of flashes before it is steady on, whether to repeat the cycle when you foot is on the brake etc..rate of flashing etc..

Also available on Amazon
I have found that is will trigger an error if you start the car with your foot on the brake..
Yes, I was thinking of adding it to teh third brake light,
People just don't look for small cars.
I was hoping to find one that does not trip an error, but might have to add a resistor to fix that.
I have heard of some that have an accelerometer so even with a steady brake light input they flash if the vehicle increases the rate of deceleration.
I’d like to have something like this on my 981C. Heck my 2004 E46 had the option (but had to be coded in
ECU
).
