I'm vaguely giving thought to a front lip on my '09 987 Boxster. Since it primarily will serve as a curb-feeler I don't think I want to spend a lot of money on it, and the eBay one is not a lot of money (less than $100 is down in the noise..)
Has anyone gone this route? How hard is it to install and how many permanent holes does one have to add to the stock vehicle?
Thoughts, comments, or whatever are all welcome!
Biggest question only you can answer? How much visual appeal do you feel the piece adds to your car? I don't have experience with this unit but a lot with various add-ons going back decades across a lot of customer cars, the louver fascination, you name it. Here's my prognostications: it won't fit as perfect as you hope. It will require nut and bolt fasteners to extract any downforce integrity it might add and for the best visual outcome. If it does snag on a curb or whatever it's possible it could cause collateral damage.
Boris - all thoughts I've already had.. so I'm waiting to see in anyone has actually done one of these and report on all the issues. I'm not doing it for appearance (looks a bit Ricky-Racer to me) or downforce (like something that small will make any difference..), more as a curb feeler. Since I can't see even vaguely the nose of the Boxster - and it really hates steep driveway angles (I've gotten pretty good at going across most of them at 45 degrees..) I'd rather score it up than do more damage to the bottom of my bumper (thank Dog no one can see that..)
I put a 3 piece Joe Toth splitter on my Cayman S. . It does scrape now and then on steep inclines but hasn’t broke just scraped the lower edge a bit. One nice thing about the design is you can order the pieces separately if you need to replace part of it. It attached with the oem clips and you only had to drill 2 holes for the centerpiece. If it is decided that you don’t like it the location of the drilled holes can’t be seen.

I believe I looked into the Joe Toth products and can't remember seeing a lip for a 987.2 boxster. The Cayman ones are apparently different (as is the Cayman nose/bumper-cover).
I have a JT front splitter as well… it makes the front end even longer so it will scrape if not careful.. I need to use boards to get out of driveway… I’d be interested in how that fit above tho…
Ya sadly they are different.. the .2 bumper is way cooler
