The obvious problem was the rear drain tube that was broken, which we have seen before on here (photo included, and another 10k).

So, tubes were replaced, but there are still drops of water coming from the drainage system.

Upon replacing the harness it was determined that there was also damage to another wiring harness that ran into the body of the car.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

This is the bottom of the drain channel/tray before water exits behind the rear wheel. Theres a slow drip/leak from the plastic. Unfortunately I could not get the video to load
Broken drain tube that was replaced
Any experience with the water collection tray/drain on a 996 C4 Cab?
A lot of challenges over the past 2.5+ years. I attempted to keep this short in hopes of not losing everyone but it was just too hard!
August, 2023, my 2002 C4 Cab wouldnt start. Diagnosis, rodents had chewed on the engine wiring harness (~13k usd). Upon replacing the harness it was determined that there was also damage to another wiring harness that ran into the body of the car. After over a year of waiting for the harness from Porsche the shop was told they would not be able to provide the harness, ever, and we would have to repair or find another solution. The shop sourced a used harness and made the repair along with draining and replacing all fluids (another 15k) I finally get the car back after over 2 years!
It rained hard the day that I picked the car up. The first day the shop had the car outside in the 2 plus years. It wasnt raining when I picked it up and after a quick drive on the highway (maybe three miles) I put the car in the garage for the day. The next day I got into the car and noticed a slight musky smell. I didnt think too much of it but then noticed the drivers side door sill was wet. Called the shop and they thought maybe a door drain plug was clogged. Brought it in and they noticed the entire back drivers side was sopping wet. The car was then removed of all seats, carpets, and panels to dry everything out and locate the problem. The obvious problem was the rear drain tube that was broken, which we have seen before on here (photo included, and another 10k). So, tubes were replaced, but there are still drops of water coming from the drainage system. This is now pushing 3 years and over 38K usd. Were now being told another 9k to replace the plastic channel collection trays/drains on both sides. Apparently the convertible top and all components have to be removed to replace these drains/trays.
Has anyone experienced this or have any suggestions/recommendations?
First, make sure the drains are completely clear - they exit on the front side of the rear wheel fender liners.
Can use a length of trimmer string to help ensure no blockages exist.
That, along with the drain tubes an deflector panels in place helped cure my leak.
For what its worth, those corrugated hoses just press over the nipples on the trays. Theres an o-ring that goes inside the tube to help hold it in place. I recall mine looking very similar.
Thanks so much for the reply! The drains have been thoroughly cleaned and 99% of the water is flowing where it should. Its just this small drip that seems to be sliding down the plastic tray.
You mentioned a deflector panel. Im very curious about this. Would you happen to have any links or part information?
truly appreciate your help here. This has been driving me insane!
Thanks everyone! I genuinely appreciate all of the responses here. Great community!
Ill keep this updated as I make progress with the hope that it helps someone else down the road.
Cheers!
