It may be something to do with how the product was type approved but it is probably an error on their part which may even cost them lost sales.

Was a pain as the grub screws were seized so had to replace all four mounting plates on the roof!

I've been looking into roof bar options and there seems to be some ambiguity in the 996 production years and compatibility. Thule, Design911 and many others list compatibility for the Carrera from year 2000 which obviously excludes 996s built in 1998 & '99. Can anyone tell me if there is a difference in the roof mounts between cars built in '99 built and 2000?

Other than the early cars have metal screws in the holes, not aware of a difference.

You could contact Design911 or Thule and enquire why they state that the product is not compatible for pre-2000 Carreras. It may be something to do with how the product was type approved but it is probably an error on their part which may even cost them lost sales. As giraffeinbath wrote, I am not aware of any difference apart from the screw material or can think of why there should be a difference between those years. :?:
