There may well be a group buy coming on the intakes and/or ecu tuning, but we've got to get the testing done on my car first and report the results, hopefully sometime next week.

Since I don't have the article on this up yet, one of the items I highly recommend is to use an air hose to blow the excess oil out of the filter.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

i am thinking about this mod...evo claims 6-8 HP increase. does anyone have any experience with this?

Yes I have one on my car now for testing and it will shortly be tuned with GIAC programming. So far I'm pleased wtih the intake from EVO, more sound, more grunt when in passing gears. There will be an article coming soon with the details so standby!
EVO's discussion on Dyno testing was pretty interesting. It is a must read for anyone using dyno results for decision making.

There may well be a group buy coming on the intakes and/or ecu tuning, but we've got to get the testing done on my car first and report the results, hopefully sometime next week. Preliminary results of the intake so far have been positive. I've got this to say about water getting into the intake box without the deflector plate. When opening my airbox there was evidence that water had crept into the airbox and as it was designed to to flowed to the bottom of the airbox along a channel and out the drain hole, never getting to the air filter element or into the engine. I'm really not concerned about the removal of the baffle plate after seeing inside my airbox and how it was designed along with the knowledge that I've driven through some pretty heavy rains with no baffle plate and it has never been a problem.
Anyway more on the intake and ecu soon...
kman,
thanks for the update. concerning the water penetration...that is why instead of removing the air baffle pate and replacing it with mesh...i suggest members to drill holes on the plate directly to de-snorked their caymans. this can be done by drawing a grid on the back of the baffle plate so as the drilled holes have a symetrical look.
please let us know when you have results from your test...
best, michael
K-man,
I can't find anywhere pictures of it installed. I'm sure you will have picts soon but out of curiosity, is it a hot-air intake (exposed to engine compartment) or does the stock airbox cover go back on? Being in Florida, I'm concerned about heat soak in stop and go traffic.
Vic
The EVO intake fits inside the stock airbox so it is NOT exposed hot engine compartment air. I do have some pics but will wait to publish them with the entire article. The ECU tuning is tentatively scheduled for this Thursday pending Garrett's availability.
I had a quick glance on their web site; I just want to know why they charge more than offerings from k+n or bmc. All three use cotton cone filters?
I think these filters + de-snork will give some interesting bhp reading compare with standard!!!
fred,
can you provide a little more feedback on the GIAC and Tubi setup...i have Tubi on order at my local dealership and am wating for Kman's experience with the ECU/Evo Flow.
Thank you for your time.
Yes, do you need me to put up the install article? (referenced on home page). I was going to wait to put it up along with the GIAC article, but the tuning was delayed until at least Thurs of this week.
Kman, there were no instructions that came from EVO. is it relatively easy? also, does the filter need to be oiled?the K&N filter on my Volvo S60R came pre-oiled. the EVO does not look like it was oiled...
Thanks, michael
Please do not install until I can get the article up, there are some pointers and tips I think you will find very helpful. It isn't hard, but might as well benefit from the knowledge.
Michael,
I installed mine yesterday. It took about an hour and 15 minutes, even with no instructions -- easy. Just look at the picture K-Man S posted on the front page of the site for a reference. Drill two holes, tighten two screws and the hose clamp. You will need something compact to drill with ( I used a Dremel), flathead and phillips screwdrivers, 8/10 mm socket/ratchet wrenchand a #4 allen wrench. Also you will need a #27 torx for the engine cover.
The filter is a K&N, and it is pre-oiled (I've never seen one that wasn't) but not 'over-oiled'. Just put it on the way it is. I probably should have taken and posted pics, but I knew K-Man S was going to be doing that...
You can hear an immeadiate difference after the installation, especially at idle as the ecu begins to adjust to the difference in air flow. I can't tell about performance yet, I've only driven a few miles in traffic so far.
Bluesmaster
OK. I just got the Tubi Style exhaust installed as well as have the local dealer installed the EVO V Flow air filter. I immediately drove over 50 miles for the ECU to register the additional air flow...(car is also de-snorked).<o

Let me tell you...the Cayman now FLYS!!!!<o

I know my opinion is subjective...but before the Tubi/EVO/De-snorked mods, mybest time from 0-60 was pretty consistent at 5.2-5.5 seconds...now, on the same stretch with similar road conditions/temp, I have finally gone below 5 seconds.
Results are as following:<o

1st try 0-60 in 4.9 seconds<o

2nd try 0-60 in 5.3 seconds<o

Methods of measurements are pretty basic…my bother is in the passenger seat with a digital stop watch.
He counts 3-2-1-GO and I do my thing.
He watches the digital speedometer and stops the clock when it reaches 60 mph.
Basic, but we are consistent with this method.
His added weight may also be hurting time, but I couldn’t do this without him.
<o

My time has definitely improved...some will probably say ...it was my confidence with the added mods that made me a better driver. Maybe, butthe end results are the same...I AM HAVING A BLAST!!!<o
></o
>
I will post picture if anyone is interested...I am sorry for not adding much value to the forum by doing the installation myself and taking picture of the process. (I rather spend my time smoking a Padron Anniversario 1964)<o

BTW, the Tubi Style sound is mean and angry. If you don’t like the race car sound...you should not do Tubi. If I heard the Tubi comingdown a dark alley, I would hide.<o

Since I don't have the article on this up yet, one of the items I highly recommend is to use an air hose to blow the excess oil out of the filter. We did that and had a nice red pool of excess oil on the ground as opposed to potentially fouling up the MAF sensor. If people who haven't done this start tripping a check engine light that will be the first thing I suspect, too much oil in the filter.
K-Man S-
Good solid advice. Mine was under oiled in my opinion, so much so that i had asked the earlier question on is it pre-oiled?...did you include your impression and experience after mod on you future post of this topic?
I recall using K&N filter on my VW Jetta, whereas the excess oil was definitely and issue. I would suggest that after you blow the excess oil out, wrap the filter in news paper and leave it in it for a day.
