Car has 55k on it and is lapis blue with savannah full leather interior , just before the car went to Hartech in UK I fitted new 997 coil packs and a switchable s/s exhaust which livened it up quite a bit as I also did a full service.A week later I got the full paint correction / ceramic coat done locally which included the calipers/wheels/interior and all ex plastics (Everything)

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hey all I've pulled the trigger on getting my 996 Eng fully built up to 3.9 power spec .I'll post my experience here and how it compares to the std 3.6 Car has 55k on it and is lapis blue with savannah full leather interior , just before the car went to Hartech in UK I fitted new 997 coil packs and a switchable s/s exhaust which livened it up quite a bit as I also did a full service.A week later I got the full paint correction / ceramic coat done locally which included the calipers/wheels/interior and all ex plastics (Everything) I bought genuine Porsche heat shields for the 997 coil packs as were missing and also a dash exhaust and spoiler switch as not fitted to C4S .it's got the std audio and I won't upgrade as I think it suits the age of the car 2003 and don't want to fcuuk with it So the lads in Bolton are now doing their work and I have to say the dealing with them has been very good so far, good honest info and opinion so as of now I'd highly recommend them .Obiously I'll report further as the job progresss for anyone on the fence about under taking such an expensive upgrade.

POST 2Original post

good luck, and looking forward to reading about progress

POST 3Original post

Sounds like a big adventure for your C4S, and great to share the results. What prompted you to have all that engine work?

POST 4Original post

Exciting... I followed your saga on the 4S FB group, glad you made the decision to get a Hartech build. Will follow with interest, and a good plan to go 3.9 so you get something better at the end of the process, for a modest extra outlay.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

A few pics of the car just before the overheat incident 😢

POST 6Original post

Looks stunning. At least you will feel like you get something extra by going with the capacity increase. I wonder if Hartech do auto to manual conversions. I can't imagine there is that much involved relatively speaking.

POST 7Original post

So what was the overheat incident? Why the need for a rebuild? It would be worth posting all the details here to make a full thread. FB groups are rubbish for this type of thing as you can never find anything useful in them

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Good point Johnnie D The water pump ate itself and lost circulation of water completely Inc temp readout , wet rainy night so did spot it till it got very hot..... The car had had an engine fire I believe earlier in its life so maybe the writing was on the wall , I'm going to remedy all that now by throwing dollars at it 🙀

POST 9Original post

Wow, thanks for sharing. At least it's getting the best treatment possible now, and you'll have a fabulous car once its sorted. With an NA enlarged engine that'll be nearly as quick and more fun to drive than a Turbo. :worship: I've heard of a few fires or overheating issues on w/c 911's with resultant write off. But that's pretty bad luck for all failsafe mechanisms to protect the engine to fail!

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

JonnieD Prob the biggest failsafe failed .....ME :nooo:

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

So the cars is almost ready so maybe time to advertise for sale .Have some offers from trade but not hitting the spot needed for me to let it go.Whats people thoughts on current value and wheres the best place to get genuine intrested people ??? Zags

POST 12Original post

I sadly don't think you're likely to get back what you want for the car with the cost of the Hartech rebuild added to the price of a normal C4S (others will correctly if zim wrong) as the price of both isn't the market value I think for a Hartech engined car regardless of if its a standard engine or increased capacity. I suggest you also need to get through the running in period/service after the work is done as most buyers could see that as extra phaff.

POST 13Original post

...I'd love to see you get £40k as an owner of a rebuilt 996.2 and I mean that genuinely however it might be a bit rich? It shouldn't be because by any metric it's a quantum leap better than a 993 but the market thinks and behaves differently... ...good luck though bud'

POST 14 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

appriciate the feedback lads , its a tough one to price in that its worth X to me and maybe not the next person.Would prob talk to an intrested party but just as easily id keep it.Maybe unconciously thats what i want to do ????

POST 15 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

On the running on question above I see your point but if it was me I'd like the virgin engine to make sure it was bedded in properly if I was buying to keep for a long time . Unique opportunity to get the car before anyone else has had the opportunity to possibility abuse it during first 1000miles .different people have different thoughts on bedding in rings etc with some trashing it to prep it for the future and some moly coddling it . I personally would follow Hartechs recommendations on running in procedure if I keep it .
