Since then Fabspeed has made adjustments to this exhaust and I have not heard nor seen installed a current revision.

Me and a few friends installed the FABSPEED cat back system on Sunday afternoon.

The Fabspeed unit that went onto a car that I heard was an early production unit, possibly the first installed on a customer Cayman.

You also asked to know things good and bad about the exhaust on the negative side it was a pain to fit up to the Cayman it was installed on, and hung down rather low, on the positive side it is nice and shiny.

Keep in mind that you'd have to use the same microphone from the same distance to get a comparison between two exhausts and even then how it sounds on your computer speakers may not be how it sounds in real life.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I've just heard the sound of the exhaust while fabspeed were trying to dyno the car and it sound so good!
and i've heard my friend, who had fabspeed exhaust on his 997 too. Both of them sounds terrific.
since i'm new in porsche, i just want to know all the things, good and bad, about Fabspeed exhaust.
Thank you. (Btw, is there any sound file of K-MAN-S' exhaust??)
-tokz-
I'm not sure how you missed the sound file for my exhaust, but yes there is one in the Files section, and links to it posted in the article and in the forum. Keep in mind that you'd have to use the same microphone from the same distance to get a comparison between two exhausts and even then how it sounds on your computer speakers may not be how it sounds in real life. I've also heard the fabspeed exhaust first hand and what I couldn't take was the resonance. Some might like that, but I don't. You mentioned that the fabspeed exhaust was on the dyno, what were their numbers by chance? You also asked to know things good and bad about the exhaust on the negative side it was a pain to fit up to the Cayman it was installed on, and hung down rather low, on the positive side it is nice and shiny. /fckeditor/editor/images/smiley/MWPX/wink_smile.gif
Tokz,
I have the Fabspeed system on my Cayman. As of right now just the cat-back is on but i just received an email from Fabspeed letting me know that my sport headers will be shipped to me next week. As far as sound goes the cat-back is very nice. That is really the only way i can describe them. They are not over the top laud and as far as resonance goes i feel its minimal. I do think that once the headers are on its going to be a whole new sound much more deep and aggressive but still the cat-back is a nice improvement over stock. Now everyone says they hang lower. Heres my opinion. They do hang slightly lower and i emphasize slightly but they look as if they hang much lower due to the fact that they are polished stainless steel and you can see the entire system under the car. It basically tricks you into thinking they are lower then they really are. I will get a picture up by the weekend so you can see. I have not got it on the dyno yet b/c I'm waiting for the headers and I'm very anxious to see what kind of hp numbers I'm going to get. I know K-man-s got 21hp out of his miltek system. I will keep everyone posted.
And yes they are a tight fit under the car but they weigh less.
Kenny,
Thanks for the good word on FABSPEED. My FABSPEED cat back system is being built as we speak and I am anxious to install it. Did you have a dealer do it, or did you install it on your own?
Thanks for the feedback!
Well my best friend owns a performance shop so he did it for me at no charge but i watched him do it and i would recommend having a shop install it. It was kinda tricky getting everything to fit straight and you have to take off all the old factory brackets and install the new one fabspeed supply you with. But if your handy with a tool I'm sure you can get it done.
Hey Kenny,
How long did it take your professional friend? Just trying to figure out how long it will take my guy and determine if it's worth having someine else do it.
I always equate resonance to a 'droning' sound, the easiest way to cause it is to lug the car the a little, or let off the gas and let the car coast against the gears. Of course the easiest way to describe it is to get into a car that has an exhaust that has resonance and point it out. There used to be a particular exhaust for the 986 Boxster that had bad resonance but I don't recall the name of it at the moment. Seems like it began with a 'g' but anyway it had bad resonance.
I want to update this thread to be 'fair'. The Fabspeed unit that went onto a car that I heard was an early production unit, possibly the first installed on a customer Cayman. Since then Fabspeed has made adjustments to this exhaust and I have not heard nor seen installed a current revision. I want to be fair to Fabspeed and point this out as I'm not sure that I have made this particular point in months since that exhaust was first installed. I would therefore lean on members here who have recently had it installed to give their depicton of sound and difficulty, etc.
Club members,
My FABSPEED system should be finished this week (i hope). I did the complete system: Headers w/ sport cats and the maxflow cat-back exhaust & intake. I will be posting my thoughts and feelings as well as dyno results, sound, and detailed pictures. Stay posted.
K-Man: oops, i missed the sound file. i just download it and if i'm not mistaken, the miltek exhaust does not produced a low bass sound??
@KENNY: how much is the total cost for everything?i'm really interested in Fabspeed after listening to my friend's 997 with fabspeed exhaust. they sound great

-tokz- plenty of low bass sound in the Milltek, but really you need to hear these first hand, microphones don't capture the true sound very well, especially in the fashion as done for that clip. Looking forward to Kenny's impression of the Fabspeed.
tokz,
Well as with anything with Porsche's or any other high end car parts are not cheep. The entire system was about $5,000.00 with shipping. The headers are $2,895 and the cat-back was $2,000. Fabspeed may cut you a break if you get the whole system but absolutely no guarantees on that.
K-man: yah that's true.. i should really listened to it first hand. not from a video or anything. but i dont know anyone in Bay Area, from what i read in the forum, that has the miltek exhaust modification to their Cayman S.
Kenny: wow, that's a high price. but like what you said, it's a porsche so it wont come cheap.
Btw, i'm confused with the difference between a catback and headers.
I believe Catback are those two large tubes at the end of the exhaust, just before the tip? and headers are the one that connects the exhaust to the engine??
BTW, Fabspeed is in the process of joining up as a sponsor for this site as well. If all goes as planned expect to see an article on Fabspeed from Kenny's install sometime soon.
Me and a few friends installed the FABSPEED cat back system on Sunday afternoon. It took us about two hours and a 12 pack of MIller lights. The quality and fit of the system are first rate and the sound it creates was just what I was looking for. Not too loud (so the wife will still get in the car), raspy at lower revs with a nice solid howlover 4000. A lot of my car buds stopped by during the installation 'party' and all commented on the beauty and simplicity of the system. Jay, a Vice President at FABSPEED, was available on his cell phone all day long if we had any installation issues. I even got a call back today from one of the FABSPEED techs to check on the final installation. Good customer service!
Overall the system exceeded my expectations. The sound, to me , is howthe CaymanSshould should have sounded from the factoryand I recommend it to anyone who wants a good cat back system for less than $2,000.
I'm going to dyno the car later this week and will publish the results. I hope the EVO intake and the cat backs will give me about 10 more ponies. Let me know if I can answer any specific questions about the installation./fckeditor/editor/images/smiley/MWPX/drool.gif
