Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

15 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi some of the longer term members on here might remember my project. I have a 996.1 early c2 manual cable throttle car. I'm sure if you search up my name my threads should come up. I started to restore the car 3 years ago as there were a number of jobs needing sorted. Started at brake pipes and ended up being a bit more having to fabricate new sills etc. The car is a '98 c2 aero car with about 75k on the clock. I'd have to check but there is a good service history. Lots of extras, lwfw, new clutch, AOS. The list is endless. I couldn't even start to list the work done so best to search up here or my Instagram @nedhannon Sorry I'm a bit crap with links. Cars still in bits and I've run out of steam basically as it needs painted and built. I'm just trying to figure out what individual parts may be worth. A good 3.4 engine, gearbox with lsd. Aero parts, bumper, deck lid with wing, skirts etc along with everything else. Decent condition m030 stuff. The car is perfect spec apart from having a sun roof. I'm only toying with the idea as I don't have time to finish it and I have at least £10k of my own labour in it. Also the cars been in an accident at some stage and registered but I've had it down to the bare shell and it's hard to see why except for some filler in one quarter panel and a small fix on the rear bumper. There's loads of nice bits, manifolds, sports cats, exhaust etc. This is just a post in the community to see if there's any interest and an idea of parts pricing. Thanks and sorry for the shitty post

POST 2Original post

I looked at it when I Found the rust and quick calc was I'd make about £10k min but probably a bit more now I'd say. Some bits there that will sell no problem. I might be interested in the aero bits to be honest.

POST 3Original post

Sorry to hear of your situation with the car. If it was me I would be looking to sell it all in one go, breaking a car for parts is a massive pain with the in demand parts going no problem and then sitting on a pile of parts which nobody needs which end up going for scrap. Would be a shame to not see it finished. MC

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi guys. I guessed you 2 would be holding up the fort here. I'm not intent on moving it, I don't need the money and don't need the hassle but I'd say at this stage the wife would be glad to see the back of it. I really wouldn't want the hassle of breaking it but the reality is the engine, gearbox and aero parts would fetch more than the car as a whole.

POST 5Original post

Sorry to read that breaking is a consideration after all the graft you've put into it Ned, All the best Jez :thumb:

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

It's only a thought Jez as I've just so much on these days. It's not for the love of it, I'm just so busy. I'll probably not part with it simply because of the work I've put into it. I'm just thinking out loud. How's your own car these days?

POST 7Original post

996 Surely someone would buy this to finish! The trouble is the majority would think this guy's run out of money so i will steal it. I suppose when you think it might take £6000plus for a good paint job you start to think what would it be worth when completed? If you have £10k in it plus paint to come it ends up an expensive cat registered car! :?:

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Re: 996 Maybe but at 10k, I'd literally get more for the engine, box and aero bits.

POST 9Original post

It it's got grey sport seats In good condition I'd be interested. Possibly some other trim it too.

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Black and they're ok, not great as they aren't original and someone else fitted them.

POST 12 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I'm under no illusions and as I've said, this is just an idea. I'll most likely never sell it due to having put so much work into it. It with strong prices atm it'd be silly not to consider it

POST 14Original post

My cars pretty good thanks, I've put about 2000 miles on it since the new suspension set up, rear subframe bushes are great, thanks  although perhaps I'm enjoying the new set up a little too much as just when I'm thinking of spending a little on my other car the 996's rear tyres are done and the n/s front wheel bearing is whining at me!

POST 15Original post

Really sorry to hear that you've reached the end of the road Ned. I use to love following your progress although at times it did seem one step forward and two steps back! Some great talent and ingenuity you've put into that car though, so I hope it can stay together.
