Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Finally, after a check for error codes (and signal) from the DME, disconnect the negative cable on the battery for 30 minutes, reconnect and see if that resets everything.
Leading evidence: 'Repair cracked cylinder' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check error codes (and signal)' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Should the gauge move from bottom if say 30l is filled, not full?
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

This is a bit annoying as when on track, he don't want to fill the tank full, but as it is now it is very hard to figure out how much there is fuel in the tank.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hello again,
My friend have a 2002 996 and after he got the engine fixed he got some other minor problems.
He bought the Durametric tool and after he hooked it up, there was couple of errors that Durametric lost connection and now he has in dash info a message "Bordcomputer Error".
This can not be reset and the local dealer, who got a bit upset that the car had been "penetrated" with some else than authorized tools, could not help.
They commented that there is communication error somewhere.
Duratmetric had no idea what to do.
Oil pressure gauge.
He also got a oil pressure sensor fault and when he tried to test the gauges, all other gauges can be "moved " with Duratech, but not the oil pressure.
After changing the oil pressure sensor the gauge is reading oil pressure that varies according to RPM. But can the oil pressure gauge be tested with Duratech?
Fuel gauge.
If the tank is run so dry that the warning light it lit, the gauge remain at the bottom and the light stay on if tank not filled full.
This is a bit annoying as when on track, he don't want to fill the tank full, but as it is now it is very hard to figure out how much there is fuel in the tank.
Should the gauge move from bottom if say 30l is filled, not full?
If the car is AWD (C4, C4S or turbo) due to the design of the tank the fuel remaining in the bottom half of the tank is not measured, it is calculated. Because of this, if the tank is run low it will indicate any added fuel below a preset amount. I'm not sure of the exact amount as I always fill my tank, but I would imagine that 30 liters would be enough.
As far as I know, the Durametric software will tell you what the engine oil pressure and oil temperature is but will not let you manipulate, or test, the gauge.
Here is what I would do, buy a simple OBDII scanner and see if you can read any errors. Sounds like link between the DME and the test port may be faulty, or the DME is fried. Is there any water under the seat, or the carpet wet? Finally, after a check for error codes (and signal) from the DME, disconnect the negative cable on the battery for 30 minutes, reconnect and see if that resets everything. Then post the error codes if there are any.
Yes, the car is a AWD, sorry that I did not mention that.
Thanks for this info.
The other gauges can be manipulated with Durametric, only the oil pressure not.
The car work fine, only that the dash info read this error and no consumption and other data is displayed.
I'll tell him to to disconnect the battery.
The fact that you can trigger the instrument cluster test in Durametric means Durametric is talking to the instrument cluster. Seems like all other gauges can cycle through their full ranges except the oil pressure gauge, I would suspect you have a problem within the instrument cluster, which is also what the error message says.
Can Durametric still communicate with the DME? What happens if you ask it to read DME error codes?
Durametric don't show any errors, Porsche factory diagnose tool show communication errors.
Perhaps somebody who have also Durametric could confirm if the oil pressure gauge can be manipulated with Durametric or not.
It's really hard to try to figure out where the problem might be and just replacing parts is very expensive.
My friend just went thru a complete engine rebuilding, Hartech UK repaired a cracked cylinder, this was not cheap.
Was the source of the Error Bordcomputer found? I have just had the same error come up on my 2001 996 Tiptronic after having the engine and gearbox refit and there doesn't seem to be a lot of information out there. Thanks
This thread is 13 years old and he is from finland so his clock is a little ahead if u r stateside... it appears that he still posts on the board. Maybe PM him if u can.
Hi Chappio,
I don't know if this help, but one guy in Finland built a street legal? track car from a 996 Turbo and got rid of the interior etc. My friend bought
the center console computer from him.
Swapping this center console computer cleared this error. The navigation and radio had to be "re-programmed", or something was done to those.
I have no idea how common this problem is, isn't anybody refurbising or repairing these units?
My friend has sold the car. Apologize that I couldn't provide any real help.
