I will say that MA Shaw's rear wing is very nice, and when painted/installed by a qualified body shop looks completely OEM.....
Leading evidence: 'Install by a qualified body shop looks completely oem' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'most difficult, given' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Install by a qualified body shop looks completely oem' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Also, the grills appeared to be way too big to insert after the wing was painted and all the hardware was installed on the underside of the decklid...and I didn't feel like removing the hardware and trimming down the grills to try to get them to fit, since I was not much a fan of them to begin with.

The bumper was a new oem unit sourced from an ebay vendor at $860 (which included shipping), the skirts were oem and from sunset at $730 (including shipping), and the rear wing was from MASHAW and ran $1350 including shipping.

The skirts were probably the most difficult, given that I did not want to screw up the 3m tape placement.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

At long last I finally got my aerokit wing, skirts, and bumper onto the car. I could not be happier. It doesn't even look like the same car...I love it.
The bumper was a new oem unit sourced from an ebay vendor at $860 (which included shipping), the skirts were oem and from sunset at $730 (including shipping), and the rear wing was from MASHAW and ran $1350 including shipping. I found a great painter (who was familiar with porsches and aerokits)who did everything for $1200. The grand total was $4,140. I did the install myself to save a little money, and found it was not that hard at all if you take your time. The skirts were probably the most difficult, given that I did not want to screw up the 3m tape placement. If there is any interest I may write up a diy since I took some pics during the install.
my painter was pretty impressed with the rear wing...said it was one of the better replicas he had seen (still needed sanding and primering...but no fittment issues at all). Kudos to Mike at MASHAW for putting out a great product! Here are the pics:
Thanks for the compliments guys! Vwrado, you are right, I've got 15 mm H & R spacers on the rear wheels...really helps fill out the wheel well in my opinion.
Scott welcome to the MKI Aerokit team, it looks great.
Now for a couple of pieces I do not see in the pictures that you must get to complete it:
Front Spoiler: goes under the front bumper (you can see mine just barely in my signature picture) - 996-505-986-00 (@$80)
Rear Spoiler (aka Gurney Flap or Wicker Bill): goes on the lower part of the wing (refer to my avatar to see mine - I kept it black) - 996-512-988-00 (@$280)
Both of these items are designed by Porsche to work with the kit for downforce etc.
Wow, that does look great! Kinda pricey, but I can't say you're nuts.
One thing I've always noticed about the aero kit is that if you look at the side skirts directly, they look kind of strange, but if you look at them relative to the rest of the car, they look perfect.
One thing about the side skirts that bothers me is that they're taped on--are the factory aero package skirts attached like that? It just feels so...wrong.
Tooloud10, thanks for the compliments. Yeah, the price was a bit hard to swallow...but I actually thought I did good compared to what it coud have run. I posted te prices primarily to give a reference to those who are looking to get a 996 and think they might want the aerokit. One would probably be in better shape finding a car with one already, unless the car is just a steal.
Regarding the skirts, the oem units are fixed pretty firmly at the sides (screws) and all along the length of the bottom (about 8 or 9 screws that go into clips that attach to the body). The tape just holds the top of the skirt flush (or technically, almost flush) to the body. There is a small space there, but it absolutely does not bug me and they seem very firmly attached.
Gorgeous color and nicely done! Added satisfaction especially with a DIY. The painted bumperettes would really tie it all together perfectly. Call Eric!
Yeah, the gurney lip and the bumperettes would be nice. My only hesitation on the bumperettes is that I kind of like the idea of keeping those things stock. By my prior boxsters had non-painted bumperettes, and both were "tapped" (once in a drive thru, and once in a left-turn lane), and both times they came out with no damage. I've already added the front spoiler lip since these pics were taken!
It is adjustable, just differenty than the OEM....
I will say that MA Shaw's rear wing is very nice, and when painted/installed by a qualified body shop looks completely OEM.....
Scott.... welcome to the MKI Aero club... your car looks great.
Scott and SMR996 - thanks for the inputs...
SMR - u should come out to OCR driving events at El Toro!
what do you mean different in adjustability or the way u go about in adjusting it?
thanks again
Adjustibility is the same....... The "shims" that you will use are different than the OEM wing.
Would love to come to the OCR events... Are they still running them ? From what I can see there is not much of the runway left...
Send me a Pm on the OCR info....
Thanks
I know I need to lower it, but I'm already scraping around town a bit. I've been thinking about going to the mo30 setup...since my car is pushing 80k miles and I'm probably due for new shocks anyway.
I love the aerokit on the 996! I wouldn't have it any other way!
Now you need to finish her off with some OEM GT3 wheels! I have mine for sale (cheap) so PM me if interested!
regards,
Juha
Ps. Time to update your sig!
Scott, your car looks stunning! Congratulations. The aero kit really transforms the look of the car. I dream of eventually doing the same to my new project car. You have done some great modifications to yours. Thanks for sharing the pictures and prices of the transformation.
Nice Scott. Have a Zenith Blue myself and have thought to do the transformation to a aerokit I, but have not been sure about how it would look. Now I see it looks great !
Niclas P...go for it. I was unsure as well. I'm now really glad I did it. The car gets compliments everywhere I go. They only real downside is how much more conspicous the car is. Thanks for all the kind words guys. Scott.
Just saw this tonight and wow. I need a good place to buy those side skirts so if you get some time, please PM me.
What a transformation. It's beautiful.
Paul
Hi - have you inserted the grill from ma shaw yet? I would like to see how it looks and does the oem wing have grill inserts? thanks and I love the car
I elected not to install the grills...I'm not a fan of the ones that came with the wing (seem kind of cheap). Also, the grills appeared to be way too big to insert after the wing was painted and all the hardware was installed on the underside of the decklid...and I didn't feel like removing the hardware and trimming down the grills to try to get them to fit, since I was not much a fan of them to begin with. I'm not sure if the oem grills would fit, but I might look into that later down the road.
^thanks for the information Scott.
I stopped by MA Shaw and looked at the aero wing. Nice piece of art. I also looked at the grill insert and they too look kinda weak like what you said.
Do you know if the oem have "inserts?"
I will be picking up my wing on friday so I will ask Mike.
again, you ride looks great.
Adam
did you ever put together a write up on the wing install? I am getting ready to install the 996 Aero wing spoiler from GT3TEK and could use some direction.
