The thing is none of them (to my knowledge anyway) disclose what changes were made and if the changes are at the expense of something else then the buyer should understand it.

Not saying that the ECU change requires an additive but some do ask for higher octane fuel.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I just took delivery of a new seal grey Cayman S last Friday and I love it. (I had modded C-5 prior) What mods would you suggest that you 'just have to do'? I am hearing that the short-shifter, spacers, and intake and exhaust mods are high on the list but I am looking from recommendations/suggestions since I am new to the Cayman S. All I have done so far is add color wheel caps, clear side markers and I deleted the emblems on the rear lid.
Thanks in adance for the help!
I second Kayman2 de-snork the car. It is free (almost), it sounds better and my but dyno says it also performs better. I also installed the Short shifter. I am considering a new air filter like K&N or the EVO induction. If I were to continue I would consider either the exhaust mod, orto chip it, probably in that order. Just my opinion and what I have done already, and thinking of doing.
My first mod were pedals from Rennline so I could drive the car properly to my style of driving.
My second mod was the Desnork. It cost me under $5 in materials and took less than 30 minutes. I also installed the EVO intake filter. The car sounds great now and my butt dyno says I picked up some power too.
Now that the intake is sorted, I'm looking at the exhaust. The Miltek looks to be the best performer but IMO its level of finish and visual quality is substandard to what I would expect to see at that price point, especially for a Porsche product. I'm looking forward to seeing one before I buy.
de-snork...then if you arent entirely satisfied with the cayman stance...and dont have PASM...dump it. (Eibach or H&R springs). bigger wheels (spacers if needed) and then short shifter.
This web site does a great job of whipping you up about things you can do to your already fabulous car. Witness me as I have already de-snorked and installed the Evo air filter (both worth while IMO), and am consumed with getting a better exhaust. I don't even know what my OEM onesounds like from the outside./fckeditor/editor/images/smiley/MWPX/confused_smile.gif I've never been in traffic or standing on the side of the road when a high revving Cayman came by. Some how I feel like I need to upgrade. Other times I look at my car and ask myself, 'Why did I buy a sixty-seven thousand dollar car that I have to tinker with?' It's a hobby to be sure, but in the end it's about driving which the car does beautifully right out of the showroom. Good luck and congrats on you new ride, JohnB, You are on the correct site to find out about the latest in Cayman upgrades.
after u lower, rims tires swaybars desnork short shift and spacer
get your self the 9ff exhaust or wait for the rinspeed exhaust seperates the pipes to the left and right and looks and sounds ultra bad ***!
also flash ecu you'll love it. once i get mine done im through modding the cayman.

I de-snorked,BCM air filter, fullFABSPEED exhaust, ECU tune, wheel spacers, and i already had the short shifter but its a definite do if you don't have one.
Car rips now!!!! You cant believe the difference.
BTW i am going to be posting a full article on the FABSPEED exhaust just like K-Man did on the miltek. Stay tuned......
hey guys, i plan to desnork, and put new pedals. also, silly, but will get black floormats. the terracota interior is excellent but the terracota floor mats can easely get dirty, and this way, with black floormats, it will break up the cabin color.
But i do have a stupid silly question, what is 'dyno'; i keep reading threads and the word 'dyno' shows up often.

a 'dyno' stands for a dynamometer. The dynamometer their taking about here is a machine that measures torque and horsepower at
the wheels
, (the car is standing still, the wheels are moving and the machine supplies the load). The results are put into a chart, since graphical information is a lot easier to read and interpret.
The horsepower advertised by the manufacturers is the
engine
horsepower tested in an engine dynamometer. There is usually a 12 to say 16% loss as the power is transfered from the engine through the transmition, and the diffential to the wheels.
Don't worry I learned about it at school, otherwise I would be in your same boat. Hope that helps
I spoke with a guy today at Kinetic Racing and he said the flash chip is one of the first things to consider. Any one have good luck usinga 'Flash chip'? What kind of gains did you see?
If you look around here you see 6 to 8 hp for ECU changes. However, no one speaks to the compromises that were made to achieve them. Compromises (required fuel, more emissions, engine life???)have to be made and it would be very interesting to understand them. I have my doubts about anyone being able to actually feel an 8 hp gain on a daily basis. Everyone feels it right after the change but my Cayman runs faster right after I wash and wax it also../fckeditor/editor/images/smiley/MWPX/wink_smile.gif
Register your Cayman yet?
agree with SF on the ECU 'chip' mod. great single mod on a car with a turbo, but minimal gains on a cayman without other mods first. if you are going for performance gains with any drama...you are gonna need to look into exhaust modifications/ power kit... with or without a chip...try the desnork first...its free and you might be surprised...

I guess I will need to read throgh the 'compromises' on the ECU Flash Chip. Are you saying you would need to add a gas additive for the 'fuel requirement?
So far , de-snork, short shifter and spacers all seem like a must. Exhaust and suspension will probably be a phase two in a month or so.
Not saying that the ECU change requires an additive but some do ask for higher octane fuel. A lot of the ECU tuners just advance the timing. The thing is none of them (to my knowledge anyway) disclose what changes were made and if the changes are at the expense of something else then the buyer should understand it.
