Got a fcuking scratch on my car now though and the car has been detailed & ceramic-coated therefore the whole quarter-panel will need sanding & re-spraying (rather than a local repair) and then re-coating - arggghh!!

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

11 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Im considering removing mine, was wondering if this is just an 'aftermarket" thing or was it ever an option from new? Thanks

POST 2Original post

AFAIK the cars either had a rear wiper or didn't , there was no " removal kit " . If you wish to remove it ( i consider a rear wiper useful when reversing though) then remove the motor and find a suitable grommet to fit in the screen .. i would use some silicone sealant to stop any leaks .

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks, I meant was it ever an option not to have a rear wiper but I think you've answered this.

POST 5Original post

I've just answered the same question on FB. Coincidence? MC

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I Googled 996 wiper delete and it brought up a lot of chat on the subject and also a lot of similar owners who had done it because, like me - when washing their car the wiper had snapped shut with the blade facing the wrong way and scratched the paintwork. Thought it was just me...!! Wished Id known about it before because there is a simple "small zip-tie from wiper-blade to arm" fix that would've elevated this. But I now have a lovely scratch that at some point needs to be re-painted.... Guess now I know never to let it happen again it won't, but a) removing the wiper will alleviate this and b) think it looks a bit ugly. So was thinking about buying a decent plug kit and DIY spraying the plug to match the car.

POST 8Original post

It is definitely not just you Space Cadet who has experienced this rear wiper mishap. Back to your original question - factory option code 426 is for "Without rear wiper" meaning of course no rear wiper and a smooth panel (no aperture) for the wiper spindle to poke through. Apparently this without rear wiper panel is welded in, hence the after market solution of a cap to seal the aperture. It seems that my C2 was built with option 426 ticked (I have the smooth panel), however there is no mention of this code on the under bonnet sticker.

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thank you. Appears I'm not, just in hindsight could have been easily alleviated, just until it did it I would never have thought it possible. Got a fcuking scratch on my car now though and the car has been detailed & ceramic-coated therefore the whole quarter-panel will need sanding & re-spraying (rather than a local repair) and then re-coating - arggghh!! Thanks, good to know. I'm going to remove it then and as mentioned color-code a cap. Wont look as smart as a proper non-aperture panel but will do until at some point in the far future I have the car re-sprayed and I'll have the aperture professionally welded.

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Out of interest - is the non-wiper panel the same profile as the wiper panel? My wiper panel has a flat "shelf" section before it joins the bottom of the rear window, presumably for the wiper arm. Do the non-wiper panels have this flat shelf?? I've bought some spray paint and the next job is to remove the wiper, measure the hole, buy the appropriate cap/bung and then spray it to match! Just thinking that at some point in the far future when I have the car re-sprayed I will have the hole welded-up properly.

POST 11Original post

Maybe we need a sticky post about this? When I bought my car, I was warned about this "design flaw" by the chaps at 911Virgin, so I've been renewing the cable tie on my rear wiper every year. Also a search on here brings up a few threads which discuss removing the wiper. for example: http://911uk.com/viewtopic.php?t=88422&highlight=remove+rear+wiper http://911uk.com/viewtopic.php?t=128255&highlight=remove+rear+wiper
