Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Leading evidence: 'Replace cluster' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace cluster' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi,
I have noticed my buzzer/beep/alarm for the headlights seems to have given up the ghost, I am not sure when.
When I open the door with the lights on and engine off it is silent.
Any ideas?
Best wishes
Edward
Ok so a bit better explanation for you ..
The instrument cluster has a buzzer in it .. if lights left on it will sound .
there is no single wire from the light switch to the cluster that activates this ..
I suspect the cluster sees the ignition turned off and is still seeing a signal from the headlight switch to illuminate .. it then sees the door opened and so sounds the buzzer .
As such it's a bit of a guess as to what's actually wrong .. my guess would be the instrument cluster .. at £2500 for a new one its a bit of an expensive fix !
It could be the headlamp switch .. personally i can't see it being that but it's possible .. well .. perhaps as i cant see how but it's in the loop ! ... it aint that imho but you are welcome to replace it .
Diagram below .. the wires listed for led or lights .. they dont trace back to the headlamp switch .. either way it shows the light buzzer is part of the cluster .
Yes .. i suspect this is the faulty item .. Its mounted somewhere inside the cluster and will be part of a circuit board i expect .. hence ..
Its an expensive repair .
Your options .. find a place that repairs 996 clusters and ask them if it is something they could replace .
Or replace the cluster ... not really viable though .
