Suggestion · Original poster

If you attempt to tighten the bolts enough to stretch them you'll strip the aluminium threads in the wheel carrier every time.

The fixings will be grade 12.9 high tensile steel allen headed bolts as per later 996s (the earlier ones use a torx head).

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

15 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi All, I'm working on a protoype big brake kit for my '98 C2 that will enable the use of a stock Porsche 330mm or 350mm disc in place of the 318mm standard ones. The caliper will remain the same, the point of the bigger disc being improved leverage and heat dissipation. If my prototype is successful, is there interest here in a few kits priced at around £550 inclusive of all parts, including the discs? Edit: I had to change the price as the discs cost a lot more than I originally thought.

POST 2Original post

I assume you have taken a look at my thread, this seems very well timed! I am following, let me know your results thanks

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Indeed - your thread was the inspiration for working out a solution!

POST 6Original post

350mm discs and I most definitely interested! I've been mulling this over for some time too so your timing could be impeccable.

POST 10Original post

Yes! if it fits a 2002 C2 (assume no difference between MK1 and MK2 right?). It is much required. can't beleive it doenst exist yet.

POST 11Original post

Are you planning to include studs to secure the callipers rather than longer bolts? I assume people wanting bigger discs would be doing trackdays and swapping discs/pads more often so studs would prevent the threads in the uprights getting damaged by regular bolt removal.

POST 12 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

No - there won't be studs. The heads of the bolts, or more accurately, screws, that hold the calipers on sit in machined 'cups' in the caliper that are smaller than a nut or hex bolt head. The fixings will be grade 12.9 high tensile steel allen headed bolts as per later 996s (the earlier ones use a torx head). This next bit isn't directed at Steve or anyone else who already knows this.. To squash an oft-repeated myth - these are not, nor ever have been, stetch bolts. They are tightened to a specified torque, and no tighter. If you attempt to tighten the bolts enough to stretch them you'll strip the aluminium threads in the wheel carrier every time.

POST 13Original post

Thanks for the clarification. Do you thinks studs like the ones from Tarret are not really worth buying then? https://www.tarett.com/items/996-99...trical/brake-caliper-stud-kit-bcsk-detail.htm

POST 15Original post

What is said torque? I bought new bolts recently and they were torx heads replacing Allen headed bolts that were originally in it.
