Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

I couldn't help but notice awfull reception on the radio in my Cayman S with Bose. Very few radio stations come in clear, and it loses reception easily. I am wondering if that is just how the radio is, or if maybe my antenna has come loose for some reason. I know it is a little antenna in the front glass, but come on now... This thing should get better reception! Anyone else have this problem?

POST 3Original post

Warning....most replacement radios are rebuilt, not new. I had 2 bad Bose in a row installed in my TT by the Audi dealer. Finally got them to give me free tire mounting for the 1 hour each way trip to do a 10 minute radio replacement job.

POST 4Original post

VERY interesting... So I found out this evening that when the radar detector is plugged in that the radio does not get ANY reception. Unplug the radar detector and voilla... Radio works. Doh. Anyone else have this problem?

POST 5Original post

Are you serious? That's freakin' weird. My Bose Radio works fine, but now I'm hesitant to use a radar detector.

POST 6Original post

Dead serious. Radio does not work with the radar detector plugged in. CDs are just fine, but there must be some crazy RF coming from my detector.

POST 7Original post

What kind of radar detector are you using? As usual Porsche has covered themselves " Accessories which have not been tested and approved by Porsche may impair radio function and reception ." (page 155, '06 manual).

POST 8Original post

I have a Valentine one radar detector and the radio works fine. Do not discard the antena problem possibility. I took my car and complained about AM reception. They told me it was fine, but when I got it back it was working reasonably well. I assume they check it and did something. Anycase, it works fine with or without the radar detector. PS The 12v outlets are hot all the time and you will drain the battery over two or three days if you leave it on.

POST 9Original post

Yeah - That is a good point! I did notice that the outlets are always hot. Thanks!! The detector is an older Passport. It might be 3-4 years old...

POST 10Original post

The radio reception in my Cayman S is "ok". This is my 4th Porsche and I think the radio reception of all of them have been at best "ok". I tend to lose stations much more quickly in the Porsche than I do in the BMW when traveling on the same roads.

POST 11Original post

I have the Bose, and my radio receptiion is awful. It looses local stations all the time. I've tried to locate the antenae, but can't seem to find it. I wonder if an FM signal booster would improve things?

POST 12Original post

Thanks for creating this thread 00spyder. I have often thought about this when I do get poor reception but forget once I am in front of the computer. I have experienced fading of stations and less than desireable reception and have basically chalked it up to the thin wire antenna in the windshield. I suspect the alternative would be a metal external mount but that would surely screw up the lines of the car. I think the solution especially with the Bose system is playing a CD or adapting an MP3 player.

POST 13Original post

Give it a shot! Obviously the detector is radiating emission somhow. Maybe from the crytal inside... Moving it farther from the antenna may significantly help the reception issue. Let me know if it works!

POST 14Original post

bigmellon: Got the same Bose radio issue but no detector..not all the time but think it is my blackberry...hm? We have a winner! Will let you know more as I investigate...good call bigmellon! (ps: also have CD issues when cold - just cuts to radio and says "STOP") Z
