Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

11 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1Original post

Anyone ever just miss a shift by just a tiny bit (foot is quicker than the hand maybe) and get that nasty little grind. Happens once every several blue moons, but boy it makes me cringe!

POST 2Original post

I am still messing with my seating position and have had a couple of minor misshifts. Nails on a chalkboard.

POST 3Original post

Never in my entire life have I even done that once, in any car! No, they were no auto btw.

POST 4Original post

Never did any drag racing? Easy to do. In a land far away and a long time ago I did it in my 914; 1-2 shift while in a low speed corner, a bump unsettled the car, shift caught the reverse gate, graunch!!! (ouch!) Happened once in the Cayman, shifting out of 1st before stopping to reverse. We have speed bumps in our parking area ... car hits the bump, I guess the cable shift doesn't get completely out of first; the clutch is still in but I'm hearing graunch! Major ouch!

POST 6Original post

I was reading on another board about a guy in a GT3 who was at redline in 2nd and accidently jammed it back up into first. Ouch! Makes our little problems sound like fun!

POST 7Original post

If you shift slow of course it will never happen. Drag racing, it will happen In my last car I would shift 1-2 without lifting the accelerator pedal in a race. Clutch, Slam shifter down, release, in about 1/4 second.

POST 8Original post

Take extra care on the 1st to 2nd shift in the winter when the gear box is cold. I got in the habit of double clutching this shift until the gear oil gets a bit warm. Sometimes the syncros just don't move quick enough.

POST 9Original post

Does it hurt? The grinding I mean. Ive done it a few days "racing" friends. Just to eager to get it into gear I guess. Dont blame me, my opponents were either the new CL600's or e55/63s and the occasional RS4.

POST 10Original post

My local porsche enthusiasts tell me I need to get the short throw shifter installed to help avoid that. Have not yet done it, but it is one the wish list

POST 11Original post

Been there, done that. A few days ago I did a shift so fast and so perfect the power was virually continious and seemless. I can see that the SPORT mode setting for fast shifts as setup by the factory, is spot on. Its the finer details that one does not normally get to appreciate.
