Suspected cause

Last night I searched extensively on "Key" and "Ignition" and found that the dead battery, Key won't come out issue is duly noted by Porsche in the Warranty Brochure stating that if you drive less than 6K a year, plan on buying a battery charger and that is part of your responsiblity as a Porsche owner.

Suggestion

They said (and here is the important part for everyone with a cayman) that yes the ignition was jacked and they would replace but that they had driven the car into the garage off the flatbed by forcing the key into the ignition.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

Yesterday I took my 06 S with 570 miles on into local shop for a pre-track tech inspection. I left they pulled the car in, pulled it out and then went to pull it in again for the night. Whoops the Key no longer went into the ignition, it went about a 10th of the way and the ingnition turned a bit. They were very frustrated at the shop and now my weekend at the track is off. $$ down the drain on tech inspection, and track fees. Towed to the dealer today. They said (and here is the important part for everyone with a cayman) that yes the ignition was jacked and they would replace but that they had driven the car into the garage off the flatbed by forcing the key into the ignition. Do this at your own risk if you have this problem. Also getting the door sill replaced b/c it was already delaminting. From my searching it seesm that this is a new problem. Lots of discussion on the opposite problem of not being able to get the key out! I love the way this thing drives but for the money it should impress me. the engineering needs some help, QC.

POST 2Original post

Did the techs say what would cause the key issue besides "it's jacked"?

POST 3Original post

No the igniton just failed, the shop owner David at Moorespeed here in Austin said that problem has been seen before but not in a cayman. I would imagine that part of the ignition mechinism became stuck when the key was removed and therefore would not allow the key to insert. There was no indication that this would fail. It was working and then just failed.
